George Gerbner, father of the Cultivation Theory in 1976, predicted that the Magic Bullet Theory was the opposite of how media effected people and set out to find the true way media shapes the way …
Johan Barrios, a Colombian mixed-media artist, uses graphite, oils, watercolor, and other materials in his figurative works, all carrying surreal abstractions that evoke mystery and quiet drama. There’s a potent blend of tension and tactile intrigue in the artist’s work, with conversing textures and at times, absurd staging. The artist has a new show at Anya Tish Gallery in Houston Texas, titled “Adormecido.” The artist was last featured on HiFructose.com here.

Is it the constant bickering and lack of empathy on social media? Or just the everyday injustices that don't get talked enough about? My name is Daniel Garcia, and I'm a professional illustrator that asks himself these questions all the time

Carnival of Madness | Original mixed media drawing on fine art cotton paper, 2021 Overwhelmed by light, sun, blue sea and all these bodies and humanoid shapes mingling in the highlight. All that life. Everything appears to be in a state of constant and inevitable change & transformation. Life is a piece of a puzzle with so many micro pieces to collect and glue into a bigger picture. Inherently autobiographical, these narratives unfold and offer a certain generosity of my internal struggles and melancholy moods through visual modes of storytelling about the transit from one place to another, territorially and internally – a switch that happens inside of being. Defining a shift where the worlds I’m trying to capture become even more defragmented and decomposed. It has often been said that big breaks cause a certain split of self and parts of the self are inevitably lost, while others have been found in the process. Will be sent carefully packed in a professional cardboard box (not rolled in a tube as the surface might be damaged by bending.)
