I came across this wonderful DIY video from Nerdforge and had to make my very own Diagon Alley Booknook. This was a fun start to finish! I made it a little too big I will adjust the next one. Its final size is 9"x5"x12". I used 1/8" MDF for the frame- next time this will be 1/4". This is what a prototype is for, to work out the kinks. The bricks are made from foam bought at the hardware store. I cut into different sizes then used scissors to distress to make them look like stone. I stuck on MDF frame with concrete molding paste. then painted with black gesso. Next used a stencil paint brush to add color, use a variation of brown/grey for stone effect. The floor is made with modling paste, a stencil and paint. The storefronts are made from chipboard, designed them in corel draw then cut with a laser engraver. Next just lots of patience to shape and form into 3-D structures with moulding and doors. Painted with acrylic paint and distressed. All the signs and lanterns are made with chipboard, glued on some printed paper signs. Finally used a string of LED lights in the windows to light up the book nook. I can't wait to make another one, and different scenes.

I believe a cozy and pretty reading nook is possible to arrange at any home and here are some simple tips on how to do that. First of all, you need to find a secluded and calm place in your house, where you will not be disturbed and distracted.
Hello, dear friends. Wednesday evening was filled with laughter, great food, and lively conversation at my book club. It was hosted by a lovely lady at a charming antique home that was adorned with black shutters and a red door. Quintessential New England. I just texted my #2 to warn her that she is going to get slammed with snow. She informed me last night that the stomach flu has been running rampant through her college. Part of the reason for this is that the school is not doling out excused absences for illness this week. Can you imagine a worse combo - a blizzard, the flu, and a bunch of crazy college students? Ugh. Believe it or not, Boston is at the edge of the storm this time. I'm hoping that we don't have much because we have a party invite for Saturday evening with some very fun people. If I have to buy a sled with Chili and Chowdah leading it to get me there, I will. Chowdah & Chili in training. I dedicate this post to all my blog buddies who are facing a mother of a storm this weekend. Find a cozy corner and read a good book. Or tune into a good movie or if you need some exercise, binge watch a series. Bundle up and enjoy your free time. Now if you have small children or whiny teens - been there, done that - you have my deepest sympathy. Here are a few of my favorite books that I recommend for a snowbound weekend. Houzz Amazon Just finished this book, and positively adored it. Buzzfeed Amazon One of my all time faves. Warning: do not read without tissues. Buzzfeed Amazon Sequel to Me Before You and I liked it just as much. Amazon This book has a great story centering around a political family and glamorous women, just like me. Freshome Amazon Another one of my all time faves. Two of my book club buddies feel the same way. Amazon Darling story. Tmagazine Amazon A great story about a most lovable curmudgeon. BH&G Amazon Loads of twists and turns in this mystery. Pinterest Amazon A sweet story centering around an enchanting southern couple dealing with love and sacrifice. It is beautifully written by a fellow blogger, Kristy Woodson Harvey, from Design Chic. Pinterest Amazon Read this one in two sittings. It's no wonder I'm chunky curvy. New England Home Amazon If you're crazy about dogs and appreciate a good love story, this book is for you. Betsy Speert If you don't feel like reading, I highly recommend this award- winning series. Amazon Any recommendations for our snowbound friends? Until next time...
Almost everyone has a space in their home that they just aren’t sure how to deal with. That space can be a corner cabinet, or an empty hallway wall, or even an overly wide window sill — in any case, figuring out how to use these not-quite-standard spaces effectively can be a head-scratcher.The space in question for Luke Lusk and his boyfriend Tyler Batson was a little nook in their apartment’s living room.
