It's also a good idea to wash them with warm soapy water, and rinse with clean water, every once in a while - especially after heavy wear. Also, never wear your costume jewellery overnight, and it's a good idea to clean your ear lobes with rubbing alcohol or peroxide. If they get sore, don't wear any earrings for a while, and apply a bit of Polysporin or some other kind of antibiotic salve. Also, if you have newly pierced years, only wear real gold studs for 12 months. At least!
