Eastleach, beloved of John Betjeman the clear waters of the River Leach separate the villages of Eastleach Martin and Eastleach Turville. On either bank of the river are two Norman churches, a medieval footbridge of flat limestone slabs and a 19th century road bridge span the divide and add to the picturesque village scene. Both churches are palimpsests with features and furnishings that epitomize the mutable nature of belief and fashion over the 900 years since their foundation. This remote village though famed for it's beauty is still quiet and unspoilt even at times when other local attractions are busier than one would like them to be. If one wanted to celebrate Cotswold village life this would be the village I would choose. www.bwthornton.co.uk
