Eddie's House was a doghouse designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for the Berger family of San Anselmo, California, to be used by their dog Eddie. Wright designed Eddie's House to be in keeping with the family's home, known as the Robert Berger House, which he had previously designed. The plans for the doghouse were completed by Wright in 1957, and the four square foot triangular house was built in 1963. In 1973 Eddie's House was removed and thrown away, but in 2010 Jim and Eric Berger, sons of Robert Berger, rebuilt Eddie's House from the original plans for a segment in Romanza, a documentary film by Michael Miner about Frank Lloyd Wright's architectural works in California. The doghouse remains the smallest structure Frank Lloyd Wright ever designed. (here) (Sources: Architizer & Deborah Wright; Image: Frank Lloyd Wright, via Wikimedia. And Letters of Note)
Eddie's Room has a trapdoor at the bottom. His babysitter slips him a glass of milk in the very first episode. Eddie's room changes a lot. Apparently sometimes his room was cleaner than others. He and Herman sit on a set of stairs often for their little father and son chats. It isnt easy to see, but the stairs lead to a door and apparently through that door is where his sleeping "box" is. You can see the door in the picture that is 18th down from here. It is the picture where Herman has fallen down in a dust cloud. Here is the door at the top of the stairs.

Previously called Witts Ice Cream Parlor, this Forest Hills classic was sold to the Citrano family in 1968. When we photographed this #storefront with its vintage Coca-Cola #privilegesign for our book "New York Nights" we also interviewed the fourth owner, Vito Citrano. Vito told us that “The entire interior of @eddiessweetshop including the marble counters, stained glass windows, tin ceiling and inlaid wood cabinetry is original. We still use some of the original owner’s recipes for our homemade ice cream 🍨 but we’ve added many of our own touches over the years .” • Please join us TODAY Friday, April 26th at 3pm for our FREE “Best of the Boroughs : Queens Day” illustrated discussion about small #momandpopshop businesses in Queens at the American Folk Art Museum @afamuseum . Our talk is offered in conjunction with the exhibition “Made in New York City: The Business of Folk Art” from March 15- July 28, 2019. • We will be speaking about the interesting history of many small businesses in #Queens including Eddie’s Sweet Shop. • While our illustrated discussion is FREE, registration is recommended through Eventbrite.

Many things can shape a city—its culture, history, social life, or food scene. But perhaps the most distinctive feature would be architecture. Some buildings can completely fascinate you with their astonishing design and pure aesthetics. Through careful urban planning and understanding of the cultural background, the structure of a city can carry you through time while still leaving you in a very particular place.
