Birka, on the island of Björkö, was the hub of the wealthy area around Lake Mälaren during the Viking era. It was established as a trading post in the 8th century and became an important international port for visitors from near and far. Birka was part of a global commercial network. Arabic silver and Russian pearls were traded for iron or skins. The plentiful archaeological findings tell a story of a society with a distinct hierarchy and inequalities between both the classes and sexes. Merchants, artisans and farmers were all part of Birka's population, which was ruled by the King's representative when the King was absent. When I visit the isle there was a Vikingmarket with lots of handycraft
Main article: Locations (Skyrim) Dragonsreach is Whiterun's keep in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. It was constructed in the ornate wooden style of the great Nord longhouses of ancient days. Visually and politically, it is very much the focal point of the entire city itself and perhaps even Skyrim as a whole. Leveld Art Centre is based on the history of Leveld. From the 1930s about 20 artists stayed in Leveld to paint. Thor Bøhn and Gøsta Munsterhielm were amongst the first ones and many followed: Karl Høgberg, Kaare Wildhagen, Fridtjof Smith-Hald d.y., Alvhild Bratt, Hetty Gleditsch, Pelle Roll Thommesen and Alf Jørgen Aas. They stayed in the farms and became a part of the community. Many of them were from the anthroposophical community inspired by the colour theory of Goethe. These artists have given Hallingdal a place in Norwegian art-history according to Nils Ellingsgard: “Billetkunsten I Hallingdal.” Agnar Mykle and Jens Bjørneboe were amongst the authors. Both had a summer residence in Leveld. Bjørneboe bought the log-house which he used extensively in the 1950s for work and holidays. His biographer Tore Rem says: “I think it is impossible to understand how Bjørneboe developed and worked as an author without knowing of these summers in Leveld.” Gulle Brun and Signe Seim were both poets in Leveld . Signe Seim wrote the poem “It had to be here”, while she was a teacher at Leveld school. Leveld Art Centre wishes to carry this history on according to the present.
