Quite beautiful, Sidalcea 'Elsie Heugh' (Checker Bloom) is a clump-forming deciduous perennial boasting elegant spikes of silky shell-pink, fringed flowers, 2 in. across (5 cm). Blooming in mid-late summer, the blossoms are reminiscent of Hollyhocks but do not have their dominating height or aggressive self-seeding. Attractive to butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds, the flowers are borne along erect stems above a good-looking basal clump of round, shallowly lobed leaves. Excellent cut flowers. A highly popular selection that is great for cottage gardens.
