Tunnel with straight access. A cedar floor is included with each tunnel. Tunnels are the perfect component for securely connecting Habitat Haven components. The openings in stairs, towers, bridges, and enclosures all accept tunnels. So, this makes it a flexible way to span between components or between buildings and the enclosure! A cedar floor is included with each tunnel. Tunnels are 12"W x 15"H x your chosen length. Tunnels will arrive fully assembled with access points/openings based on the configuration you choose. Tunnels are available in 6-inch length increments from 18" to 92." Keep in mind that tunnels can be connected together to make longer sections than 92." We recommend support approximately every 10-12 feet (either attached to a structure or a support post) but they can be used in longer spans with the understanding there may incrementally more flex and sway the longer you span.
Spring is, well, springing all around us and it’s a great time to spruce up your catio or outdoor cat enclosure. Your cat will thank you for it! We’ll be bringing you lots of tips for doing just that over the coming months, but today I’m going to focus on a question I’m often asked— …
Habitat Haven window catio enclosures are cages that can be attached to the outside of your window. Your cats can climb through an indoor access hatch onto a nice stable platform just outside the home, where they can safely take in the sights, smells, fresh air, and sunshine of the outdoors. These window catios are a safe way to give your cat outdoor access any time they want. Veterinary experts agree that they’re one of the most effective ways to reduce stress, address behavioral issues, and keep cats entertained. Your cat’s enclosure can be more than a window cage as it can be installed along any flat surface. Use them for windows, walls, fences, and more! They’re great starter components for larger catio systems. When you are ready to expand, it’s affordable and easy to add to Habitat Haven components. You can include tunnels, stairs, bridges, hammocks, awnings, and more to accessorize your cat’s window enclosure. Your window catio can be installed fairly easily by the average handy person using common tools. But if you would like help in picking it out or installing it, start with a call to our catio experts. Contact us online or give us a call at 1 866-484-0644. Important Details Make sure when ordering the window catio enclosures that it clears your window frame by at least 6" (inches) all around. Allow the 6" lip to properly fit around the surrounding surface so that it is secured. All window enclosures come with a cedar floor included. Additional doors, shelving, and colorful canvas awnings are not included but are available for purchase separately. Your cat’s window enclosure will arrive partially assembled to ensure safe and secure shipping. Instructions will be provided for easy assembly from there. To ensure maximum flexibility during installation, Build Your Own Kit enclosures do not come with ready-made entry point holes for connection with other components. Entry points can be created on-site during the installation. This allows easy connection with tunnels, towers, bridges, stairs, and other components. These systems are designed for maximum flexibility during setup. Please note that for Build Your Own Window Enclosure orders, wooden shelves and canvas awnings are sold separately. To keep our catio components at a low cost, every part of the fabrication process has been streamlined. Any customizations you would like to make may take manual review, planning, and fabrication. We’re happy to do it, but it may affect the overall cost. Please contact us for details if you require customizations. Assembly and Installation Your window catio enclosures will arrive partially assembled and flat packed on a pallet. The assembly instructions provided are straightforward. They are designed to be easy to follow for anyone who would consider themselves "handy”. We recommend at least two able-bodied people be present for the installation. Basic carpentry knowledge and assembly experience are also helpful. Need some installation help? Contact us for installer recommendations in your area. Clips meant to secure the cage of the window enclosure together will be provided. A special plier tool for closing the clips is provided with each enclosure order. Once unpacked, arrange your cat’s window enclosure at or near the assembly site. Using the provided 3-prong clips and specialty pliers, set the edges of your enclosure in order to connect them. Continue this step until you have a fully-enclosed and free-standing enclosure. At this point, the enclosure can be attached to the desired structure or building as necessary. After you securely attach the enclosure to the structure/building, you can create openings in the enclosure. These openings connect to tunnels, stairs, or other accessory components as needed. Please note that window catio enclosures do not come with ready-made holes. They are meant to be created during assembly installation. This allows for the greatest flexibility and smallest chance of errors. Lead Times Your cat’s window enclosure is made to order, meaning that it’s constructed by hand just for your cat. It goes through a series of steps before it is ready for shipping. The estimated delivery date stated on this page is an estimate for the total construction time involved. Important Details Please review the important information below about this item. Our enclosures are made from durable galvanized steel mesh panels that are then powder coated black to ensure a long-lasting weatherproof finish. Floor and Shelves Our shelves and floor are cut to size and made from cedar which is naturally resistant to water, bugs, rot, and mold. It the ideal material choice for outdoor catio shelving and flooring. Human Entry Doors The access doors are 2 feet wide and 5 feet tall. This purposely small door is designed small for a reason. It is installed 4 inches off the ground as well. The door has been tested since 2003 as the most effective way to force the person entering to be mindful of their surroundings. When you enter a door like this, you will naturally be careful of where you step, what is above you and to the side. All of this awareness has proven time and time again to minimize any would-be kitty escapes during entry. The swing of the door (left or right hand swing) is adjustable and can be set to either option during assembly. Holes for Tunnels, Towers, Stairs, etc. Component holes are not cut where the tunnels, bridges, stairs, and other components meet the enclosures. Since the mesh is relatively easy to cut on-site during assembly, we leave the choice on where these holes are located up to you so you can position them as you see fit. This also avoids costly mistakes being made and/or accommodates site issues discovered during assembly Assembly and Installation Enclosures will arrive partially assembled and flat packed on a pallet. Assembly is straightforward for anyone who would consider themselves "handy." Paper instructions will be provided. It is recommended that at least two reasonably healthy people are present to install the enclosures. Knowledge of basic carpentry and assembly is helpful. Clips will be provided that secure the enclosure together. In addition, a special tool for snugly fitting/closing the clips is also provided with each enclosure order. Once unpacked, you will arrange your enclosure near or on the assembly site. Using provided 3 prong clips and specialty pliers, you will connect the edges of your enclosure by setting the edges until you have a fully enclosed and free-standing enclosure. At that point, you can then attached to structure/buildings as necessary. Then you can create any needed holes in the enclosure to accept tunnels, stairs, or other accessory components as needed (holes are not made by Habitat Haven - they are made during assembly installation to offer maximum flexibility and minimize the chance for errors.) Lead Times This item is made to order. This means the item is fabricated by hand just for you. It goes through an array of steps before it becomes ready to ship. The estimated delivery date shown on this page is primarily accounting for this fabrication time. The Islands (Moutere Rahui) A feature of this area is the volcanic lava rock, which has been used to create a small lava rock forest - representative of what you would see on Rangitoto Island The Islands are home to some plant species only found naturally on offshore islands, including: • Poor Knight’s Island lily (Xeronema callistemon) or raupo taranga and offshore island nikau species. Some of these were transplanted and saved from subdivisions years ago. • Tussock grasses and low shrubs within the aviary that house Campbell Island teal and Antipodes Island parakeet replicate the look of these sub-Antarctic islands • Tecomanthe speciosa – a climbing plant that was down to a single remaining wild plant on the Three Kings Islands. It was saved from extinction by the eradication of feral goats in 1946. Many vines have been grown from this one specimen, which is now a popular climbing plant • Pennantia baylisiana – one of the rarest plants in the world. This small tree from Great King Island (part of Three Kings group) was discovered in the 1940s • Elingamita johnsonii – also from Three Kings Island, it was discovered in the 1950s. It is named after the ship Elingamite, which came to grief on the rocks below the cliffs where it was growing. In addition, this habitat features: • Raupo (Typha orientalis) – a vigorous deciduous plant growing in aquatic areas, it does an important job filtering out sediment and helping to purify water. Maori bundle the long spongy leaves to make insulated cabins and light buoyant rafts known as mokihi. The semi-circular, air-filled leaves also make perfect covering for traditional kites and poi • Kauri (Agathis australis) – the 12m specimen near the entrance was transplanted from the northern end of the Zoo.
