An example on how to use them for speaking. Teacher: What number is this ? Student: Three. Teacher: Who is she ? Student: Ann. Teacher: What color is her hair ? Student: orange. Teacher: What color are her eyes ? Student: green. Teacher: Ann has orange hair and green eyes. Students: Sig has brown hair and brown eyes. Place these two flashcards on a small board to present the order of the adjectives to describe the hair. Use a different marker or chalk for each set of words. Point to both hair and ask questions. Teacher: Look at Kelly. What color is her hair ? Student: black. The teacher writes the word black. Do the same for Felicia. Teacher: Look at Felicia. Her hair is long. The teacher writes the word long and trace her long hair. Do the same for Kelly. Teacher: Look at Kelly. Her hair is curly. The teacher writes the word curly and trace her curly hair. Do the same for Felicia. Describe Kelly’s hair and then have the students describe Felicia’s. Remember the order: length, type of hair, color. Teacher: Kelly has short curly black hair. Teacher: Felicia has long straight blonde hair. Place the people flashcards on a board. Have the students sort the flashcards into hair color, length and type of hair. Use this opportunity to introduce two more adjectives: handsome for men and pretty for women. This is the Food Unit Resource FOR k-2 English Language Learners. Worksheets can be fun and students can engage at their own pace. Students like a little coloring, cutting, pasting and making a craft all along. This is the set of the Food vocabulary workstsheet with tracing the words if your students are ready. Writing simple words is the best start. Make the like and don’t like puppets. Use the puppets with all the resources as the students easily express their likes and dislikes. Or, the students can draw what they want to eat. Take a look. Emotions and Food. After coloring the drawings ,students cut and paste the items as they sort them into happy, sad or angry. I assembled the three pages into a book. Students listen and point: Teacher: Point to the sad lemonade! Students can named each food item along with the emotion. Students: a happy cereal! Just watch on how I assembled the worksheets and how I used them for listening and speaking. Plate and food worksheet. Three ways to use it. One is to cut and paste the food from the template. The other is to have students to cut food from magazines. Check with your students the eating utensil on the worksheet: fork, knife. Have the students describe their worksheet. There is a hamburger. There are some french fries. Ask more questions: What do you have for lunch? Student: I have a hot dog and a salad. Ask more questions: Is there any pasta on your plate? Student: No, there isn't. Puppets can be made as an extra activity for these worksheets. Students can say sentences using the verb eat. I eat pizza! Use the worksheet to express likes. Then, say what they don't like about the food and drinks. Utensils worksheets. Dictate the color of each utensil. Have the students cut each one and organize them on a table. You can have them make a placemat with construction paper. Tell the students to set the table as they listen to your instructions. Teacher: Put the plate on the placemat! Put the fork next to the plate! Continue with spoon, knife, napkin and glass Pull out the menu worksheet! Play around with the cutouts before they create their menus. Have the students sort the drinks and food items. Help them associate being hungry with food and thirsty with drinks. There is a shopping list and a shopping cart available and some market items. Students cut and paste everything they would want to buy into the cart or the list. They can also draw the items or cut food from magazines or supermarket ads. Students will make sentences. I want bread and cereal. And there is the lunch box worksheet. Cut and paste the items onto the lunchbox. Students will say what's in their lunchboxes. Teacher: Point to the sandwich! Take a look! Besides of food going into the lunch box it goes on the table. There are three table worksheets, one for each meal. Students can cut and paste the food that belongs to each meal or simply draw what they usually eat for that meal. Review the numbers 1 to 10 with these worksheets. There are two sets of worksheets, one with cereal and another with pepperoni. It is a cut and paste worksheet. You can also make a matching game if you use them as cards. More number practice as independent work. It's a color by number activity. A worksheet to review the family members. You can dictate what to draw or each person. Teacher: Mommy is drinking lemonade! Draw the lemonade. Another way could be that students draw what they want and then say the sentence. Student: Daddy is eating a hamburger. You can use this worksheet for the fruit and vegetable unit. Shapes is another theme to review with the pizzas. Teacher: How many pizzas do you see? Students: four! Find the triangle! Point to the triangle! Color the triangle blue.After all the pizza shapes are colored have the students cut and glue the word. And review of the face theme. The food has facial features to color as you say. Teacher: Look at the sandwich! Color the eyes purple. Color the mouth red! What's missing? Students: hair! ears! nose! Teacher: OK! Just draw and color them on the sandwich.
