Made from copper, I have fired a clear transparent enamel, then added fine copper wire shapes, fired to 800 degrees.then filled each section with wet enamel, again fired each time to 800 degrees C I then added crushed enamel to one of the cells, fired again, soldered a section on the back to take.waxed cotton threads, added clasps...et voila!! It's a very old and laborious technique. 🛠 The desired pattern is made on a silver basis with the help of thin Fine Silver wires or strips which form the cloisons. Enamel of different colors is poured into the made gaps. The prefabricated item is put into the kiln, where the enamel melts and gains a glassy surface. To achieve better hardiness, the item is processed 3-4 times in the temperature of 800-900°C. Lastly, the piece of art is polished until its surface gets a glossy brilliant look. Sin lugar a dudas es la naturaleza y en concreto la Parra lo que inspira los trabajos de Rosa María Fernández (ESMALTE RENGUE). Esta sevillana, de un pueblito llamado Minas del Castillo y afincada en Icod de los Vinos, Tenerife, reconoce que empezó siendo autodidacta en el Esmalte al Fuego hasta que se acabó perfeccionando en la Escuela de Joyería JOCC de Barcelona, donde aprendió las técnicas del esmalte sobre el metal. Desde 2004 posee el Carné de Artesana otorgado por el Cabildo de Tenerife, aunque confiesa que siempre ha sido artesana, lo que anteriormente a esta fecha hacía otro tipo de artesanías, no exactamente esmaltes. En sus trabajos siempre utiliza el cobre, aunque puede utilizarse también plata, oro u otros metales. Las técnicas que desarrolla son a base de esmaltes transparentes, esmaltes opacos, el payón de plata y el cloixoné. El esmalte, no es otra cosa que vídrio, pero para poderlo trabajar tiene que ser en polvo. La estructura es muy similar a la arena del mar. Los trabajos que realiza requieren un tiempo de elaboración de entre 5 a 6 horas. A grandes rasgos, el proceso consiste en humedecer el polvo de esmalte con agua para poderlo trabajar. Con un pincel se trabaja sobre la pieza de metal. Se deja secar con intención de pasarlo posteriormente al horno, a 950 grados para lograr que se funda sobre el metal. Luego hay que hacer sucesivas limpiezas y pulidos de las piezas.
