Camp spaces register the struggles, emergencies, and possibilities of global existence as no other space does. In Camps, Charlie Hailey examines the space and idea of camp as a defining dimension of 21st-century life. More than 150 diagrams, sketches, building and site plans, photographs, political cartoons, video game screenshots, aerial and satellite images, and maps illustrate camp space in unprecedented complexity and variety.
April 2008 - book project for "Urban Jealousy", 1st International Roaming Biennial of Tehran Book redesign: Nicolas Bourquin and Jeannette Gaussi. Unique piece. A "Jalousie" is a window that one can see through but not be seen. International and Iranian artists are given an understanding of their very own jalousie perspective. I made this cute, pocket-sized handmade book from a tourist's map of Heidelberg that I salvaged from a collection of maps my grandparents kept from their traveling days. I sewed the book with sturdy white Irish waxed linen thread, over washi-paper tapes. A thin blue strand is woven over the tapes for a decorative touch, and to go with the blue endpages (not pictured...they're like a fancy surprise). This tiny book lies flat when you open it, and has 64 pages of hand-torn drawing paper. I'm really pleased with how it came out! Top Secret VIP List | Blog | Twitter | Pinterest | Instagram

These are handcrafted wall hangings made from beautiful very old vintage hardback books. I have used the books as inspiration for abstract pieces that evoke nostalgia, intrigue and a love of language. I have folded the books in an abstract formation, considering only their aesthetic qualities. The words and pages left exposed have a poetic resonance, standing in isolation from the rest of the book. The naturally air dried hydrangea flowers are used as a metaphor for nostalgia and times gone by. The books vary in size and are all priced at £25. Please contact me to choose the book you wish to purchase. I am also happy to take commissions if you have a book you would like transformed into a bespoke piece.
