Blackwork embroidery has been around for many, many years, but for a lot of us today, it's something new and exciting. Modern blackwork is taking the traditional artform and creating something new to fit our time. This pattern is a combination of blackwork in traditional black and cross stitch in two complimentary colours. Although the pattern comes with the colours that you see in the listing pictures, you are welcome to stitch this in any colours you prefer, including only black. Pattern Details: Total Stitches: 155 x 177 Finished Size 14 count Aida - 11" x 11" 16 count Aida - 10" x 10" 18 count Aida - 9" x 9" I highly suggest using an online fabric calculator to ensure you have the right size cloth prior to starting to stitch. I suggest a 3" border for framing, but that's my personal preference, pleases use your own judgement. This is the site I use: https://www.123stitch.com/en-ca/aidacalc.html I've added as many files as I think may be needed, including one that is Pattern Keeper friendly! ***Important*** This listing is only for the pattern file. Blackwork ATC stitched using a pattern found on the Blackwork Embroidery Archives. I liked this pattern because of the rosettes, but once it was stitched up the empty (white) space caught my attention even more (e.g. the 2 squarish-things in the center). The rosette by itself is in the purplework ATC. Swapbot - black fabric/fiber ATC swap 2 strands over 14 count fabric.

I love quilts that show illusions of 3D, but I am not a quilter. How could I get the same effect in my work? By using Blackwork, of course! It seemed ideal, because I could control the density of stitching by the pattern I chose for each diamond. The left hand side depicts an "object" that is physically impossible if each of the cubes really are cubes, and the right hand side is a classic 3D illusion. Do you see a cube in a corner of 2 walls and a floor, or do you see a solid 8-cube object, but with one of the front cubes removed? The sides share 2 patches.

Here we go! The final chart to complete my blackwork flower of this 12 part series. It has been wonderful looking at all of...
Blackwork is a counted stitch technique similar to cross stitch but using backstitching to create distinctive repeat patterns. It is a traditional embroidering style, which my patterns give a modern twist to in the instant downloadable collection of Blackwork Singles Patterns. This listing is for the Winter Star… reminiscent of a snowflake but star shaped. This pattern looks tricky but is an easy stitch for beginners that want to show some flair. What you will get in your download: You will get one document to download. Within this is the pattern, a complementary blackwork pattern and an instruction booklet which gives details on fabric, threads, sizing, stitches, how to complete your blackwork and framing the finished hoop. Sizing: The pattern is given on 130 x 130 squares. On 14 count aida this equates to a stitched area of aprox 23.5cm x 23.5cm (9 ¼ inch) on 14 count aida and aprox 18.3cm x 18.3cm (7 ¼ inches) on 18 count aida. A range of sizing is given for 14 count aida and 18 count so you can adjust your sizing depending on the size of embroidery hoop used . All details are given in the accompanying downloadable instruction booklet. What’s your next project? If you enjoy this pattern we have plenty more Blackwork Singles available in the Etsy shop, along with a Kit version if you want the project to come with everything you need to complete it straight away. Finished up a couple of Blackwork bookmarks in July. We spent a couple of days at my In-Law's cabin on a lake. If I wasn't helping with meals or reading, I was stitching under the trees. It was such a relaxing couple of days. The basic pattern, for the bookmark above, is from my Blackwork Made Easy Book by Leslie Wilkins. The other bookmark shown below was a pattern I found on Pinterest. They just need a nice little backing and then will be put into my Bible. That's all for today. Until another time, have a happy stitching day!

A blackwork tribute to chemistry, cooking, and cascading ethics. Featuring designs that would remind you of such things, like: • Two randomly chosen chemical elements. In this case: Bromine and Barium • A sketch of a local cook with a cool hat • Stacks of money to represent the awe-inspiring salaries of high school chemistry teachers • A recreational vehicle on a stopover in the desert. Someone is inside making dinner after a long day on the road and so the air vent is open, that's why there's so much smoke coming out of the top... • Tighty Whities. Just a reminder to change your underwear. • Glassware that you might use while engaging in chemistry related activities Please note that this piece includes some fractional stitches. There's a guide included in your download to help you get started if you've not worked with them before. The piece was designed to be completed using a standard backstitch. In this intricate blackwork design (which can be embroidered using a simple backstitch), common motifs are arranged to create a garden “flower bed” effect. The entire design can be stitched in monochrome, or you can use any combination of colors that you like. There are some fractional stitches which can be more easily worked on evenweave fabric, but aida could also be used. Stitch count: 156 wide x 156 high. Approximate size: 11¼ x 11¼ inches on 28-count evenweave or 14-count aida. This is a PDF file of an embroidery pattern, not a finished product.
