~*~ Welcome to the Textile Trunk! Please follow us on Instagram @textiletrunk ~*~ Very rare Victorian fabric sample book from Ballantynes of Walkerburn. Difficult to count, there are approximately 75 pages of squares and samples of woven fabric kept, presumably, as a reference record of the many different types and styles of cloth produced by this long defunct Scottish Borders textile mill. There are letters from London, from the various men's wear stores and tailors, with many fascinating technical designers notes and specifications. This is one of the best I've ever found. Many many hundreds of samples of fabric, too many to count. The letters are placing orders and also changing weights, tones etc of the samples of fabric. This is a unique document of history, I simply can't believe it survived at all. Ideal for research and design inspiration ~ MEASUREMENTS : This book measures approximately 18 inches by 11 inches closed. Condition. This book is missing the front of the book and the back is loose, not attached to the papers. and the pages have some damage. It's not in pristine condition, but it's a rare and historical item, amazing it survived at all! ~ Please see photographs to see the condition ~ This book is not about the condition it was found in, rather the historical information contained within it ~ Inventory : Paper

About This is a beautiful and historic fabric sample book dated from 1835 (as can be seen on the front cover), which was produced by Dollfus Mieg and Company who became known as DMC, one of the biggest textile companies in France in the 19th century located in Mulhouse. The book contains 110 pages, most of which include anything from 10 to 25 fabric samples. As well as being a piece of history from the fabric industry there can be no problems with copyright due to the age and therefore the designs could be used for modern day fashion and fabric design.
