A new hat shop called Ultramod opened on Rue de Choiseul in 1832. This area was the centre for hat shops and milliners supplies in 19th century Paris. Fashionable Parisiennes knew the importance of a good hat, it wasn’t an afterthought, it was the crowning glory of their ensemble. Soon after Ultramo

I have spent the last 10 days in England, visiting friends old and new and I even squeezed in time for a bit of sewing. An internet friend of several years, Trudi Wood, was teaching free motion quilting at The Village Haberdashery in West Hampstead, London so I met up with her and sat in on her class. Even if you haven't heard of Trudi I know you'll have seen her work - in magazines, display quilts for fabric companies and quilting events far and wide Trudi is the queen of British long arm quilting and you can see more of her work here on Instagram and on her Quilting Prolifically blog. It was a great group of students in the class and it was a fun day that Trudi and I topped off with afternoon tea at Fortnum & Mason before we said goodbye, quilty friends really are the best :D This was my first visit to The Village Haberdashery, I've ordered fabric from them online and had it delivered to my daughter, Flicky, in Scotland and I've wanted to go for several years but never made it so this was an extra bonus for my day. Let's take a look around the store together. Is this a cute store or what? Staff are so helpful and even ordered lunch in for us from The Kitchen Table next door - can highly recommend it, absolutely delish sandwiches and soup and great coffee too. The Village Haberdashery has now moved to larger, brighter premises at a brand new West Hampstead Square: The Village Haberdashery 47 Mill Lane London NW6 1NB Tel: 0207 794 1129 New Address: 6 Hardy Building West Hampstead Square Heritage Lane London NW6 2BR Tel: +44 20 7624 5494 website / Instagram / facebook / classes / fabric clubs / blog Opening hours: Mon-Sat 10 am to 6 pm Thurs 10 am to 9 pm Sun 11 am to 5 pm Permission granted by a staff member to take and blog all photos.
