Well, today is our first day of home visits! We are going to over 10 houses today and splitting the rest over the next two afternoons (after school). One thing I really wanted to get done in time for the home visits were homework binders. For most of my kids' homework, I send home a packet of worksheets at their appropriate level in a home work folder each day. But, for my kids who can't write, this system doesn't work. So, what I have done in the past, is make a binder of work (similar to their morning group binder) for these kids to keep at home. This is a great way for students to get extra practice and for parents to see what their child is capable of doing independently. Here are some pictures of the binder I put together last night and I will be delivering to my student's house today! This is from our morning binder. All student's have to do is move the correct month/season down into the bold box. This is the same thing, but for the weather. Just move down the correct picture for weather/temperature into the bold box. These pages make for easy clean-up...just move the picture back to it's original location! These pages are great for extra practice matching the months/days or putting them in order (I have two versions- one with pictures to match and one with blank boxes for practicing the order). These two pages are to practice identifying appropriate clothes for different seasons (and practice dressing a person). This page is also from our morning binder. It is practice in identifying colors to describe clothes the child is wearing. This is a matching page for money...coin names and value. For some pages, I use zip-loc bags as storage for the pieces. I put velcro on the bag (and on the back of the previous page) so the bag can be attached as shown in the picture below. This helps with quick clean-up/storage and prevents losing pieces! ***Update: After many requests to sell my hw binders on TPT, I have finally added this product to my store. You can check it out by clicking here. Thanks for your interest in my products and if you ever see something featured on my blog, that you would like for me to sell, please let me know!

picture from Bowl Full of Lemons website Wouldn't you love to be this organized! I was on Pinterest the other day and I saw this beautifully organized family history center. When I saw the three ring binders I thought that's what I want my genealogy organization to look like. I know it's going to take some time because I have a lot of information to organize. I know I cannot organize everything at once so I've decided to start with the McIntire's My goal is to write a family history on my McIntire's so now is the time to get all the stuff I have accumulated on them organized. I have my research spread out all over the place: on the computer, file drawers and boxes. Just everywhere! I have two family trees for the McIntire's. I have Family Tree Maker which is on my computer hard drive and I also have an Ancestry.com tree. I have photo files of the McIntire's and I have document files for the McIntire's. Some of them are on my hard drive and others are in my file folders. So it's time to get all the stuff organized! First I got a three ring binder with dividers. Dividers now come larger than usual so that they stick out beyond page protectors. I love them. Second I labeled the dividers with the heads of the household starting with my first male McIntire who is Charles J McIntire. Third I placed the family tree of the McIntire's (the pedigree chart) in the front of the binder. Forth the first thing in each person's tab is their family group sheet. Finally I'm going through all of my records and putting them in page protectors and then inserting them behind the correct male McIntire. If a record is only in digital form I am printing it out including photos. Hopefully when I have this all done I will have a better understanding of what information still needs researching and then ultimately I will be able to write that family history book! Do you organize with 3 ring binders? I would love to hear what you have to say about them. Just let me know in the comment box below. Thanks. Until next time, happy hunting! Kristina

It's so important for people who are experiencing the difficulties of diagnosing or managing chronic illness to keep track of all symptoms, no matter how short-lived, small, or seemingly not important. Even the smallest, weirdest thing can help a doctor to find the correct diagnosis, and therefore, the correct treatment. I created this checklist and summary sheets to help me communicate effectively with my doctors. After trying health journals I bought, trying to journal by myself in blank books, and failing miserably at it, I created an easy, quick checklist for my ridiculous array of symptoms. If you feel it at all during the day, check it off! There is a spot to list anything else not on the list, and if you like writing, you can write details on the back. I've included monthly summary sheets for you to use or not-it's up to you. I tally the number of days each month I had each symptom, and the results can be shocking. When you live with something everyday, you don't realize the overwhelming amount of things you overcome every day. These summary sheets are also effective tools to good communication with your doctors, or even family, spouses, partners or friends when trying to explain what your day is like.

Premenstrual disorders affect up to 12% of women. The subspecialties of psychiatry and gynecology have developed overlapping but distinct diagnoses that qualify as a premenstrual disorder; these include premenstrual syndrome and premenstrual dysphoric disorder. These conditions encompass psychological and physical symptoms that cause significant impairment during the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle, but resolve shortly after menstruation. Patientdirected prospective recording of symptoms is helpful to establish the cyclical nature of symptoms that differentiate premenstrual syndrome and premenstrual dysphoric disorder from other psychiatric and physical disorders. Physicians should tailor therapy to achieve the greatest functional improvement possible for their patients. Select serotonergic antidepressants are first-line treatments. They can be used continuously or only during the luteal phase. Oral contraceptives and calcium supplements may also be used. There is insufficient evidence to recommend treatment with vitamin D, herbal remedies, or acupuncture, but there are data to suggest benefit from cognitive behavior therapy.

I love Blending Books! I made several Blending Books for our classroom. Basically, a Blending Book is made using a three ring binder and index cards. As we learn our sounds throughout the year, we add the cards to the book so that we can blend the sounds into words. All of the consonants are placed on white index cards and the vowels are placed on yellow. The index cards can then be turned to make new words. These books are cheap, easy to use, and so effective in teaching children to blend their sounds into words. I use these books at group time and during guided reading groups for extra practice too.
