Japanese artist Kazuhiro Hori (first featured here) combines soft, cuddly and adorable with depressing and morbid. His primary subject, highschool age girls, appear dejected and even mutilated by some unseen force behind this candy-filled facade. Slight and anonymous, they are almost helpless in this abnormal environment. In one painting, sugary syrup, flowers and toys ooze from teddy bear stomachs, emulating internal organs.
Sir Pentious has adorable egg henchmen and now you can too! This pattern is at an intermediate level. You will need to know how to increase/decrease in the round, color change in a row, create shapes with felt and pipe cleaners. Message me with any questions or concerns! Selling of this pattern is prohibited. Final projects can be sold as long as credit is given to me for the pattern. Thank you!

Italian sculptor Aron Demetz (cousin of Gehard Demetz, whose work we featured in Hi-Fructose Vol. 22) creates wood sculptures that appear distressed, burnt and scarred. The process of working with wood is a fundamental part of Demetz's aesthetic — instead of presenting polished and perfected works, Demetz celebrates the wood's textures and its transformation through various natural processes. The simplified, abstracted human figures can seem like personifications of the wood itself. Demetz is currently exhibiting new works at Gazelli Art House in London through June 5 along with Korean artist Shan Hur for their two-person show, "The Tainted." Take a look at some images of Demetz's sculptures after the jump, images courtesy of the artist.

Andrés J. Colmenares is a talented artist from Colombia who makes the "Wawawiwa Comics" (as previously featured on Bored Panda).
Alessandro Gallo was born in 1974 in Genoa, Italy and is now based in Helena, Montana. After studying Law at the University of Genoa, Gallo took a foundation course at Saint Martin’s College of Art in London followed by a BA at Chelsea School of Art, graduating in 2002. While studying painting, he began experimenting with digital photography, manipulating images to create scenes of animals in familiar city settings. By 2005, he decided to give his creatures a physical presence by sculpting them from clay. Gallo’s works have been featured in the Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts in London and the 54th Venice Biennale in 2011. In 2012, he was awarded a first place grant from the Virginia A. Groot Foundation. In 2014 he had a solo show at the Jonathan Levine Gallery in New York.

Italian artist Alessandro Gallo (featured in HF Vol. 24) presents a disorienting series of sculptures for his upcoming solo show at Jonathan LeVine Gallery, "Strani Incontri." The show's title translates to "strange encounters," which is an apt summary of the experience of coming upon one of Gallo's large-scale clay figures. Expertly reproducing human and animal anatomy, Gallo blends the two to create convincing hybrids of man and beast. The works produce an almost eerie sense of unheimliche, as Freud put it: when the familiar becomes uncomfortably strange.
