It all started with the sale rack at my local yarn store - a Clover yo yo maker! For cheap! I always thought yoyo quilts were cute but didn't have them on my list to make. Sometimes....when the yoyos are in certain flesh tones... they remind me of a certain orifice. I'm sorry if I just ruined yoyos for you! But as the

I sewed the last two yo-yos together this morning, and it feels so good to have it be finished! My daughter thinks the yo-yo's look like flowers, and she points at it and says, "flowers" which led me to take the quilt to the park and rose garden this morning to snap some pictures of it. I first started this quilt in 2003, and it is the first quilt I ever started. I really didn't realize what I was getting myself into when I started making it; I just knew I wanted to make a quilt, I didn't have a machine, so it would have to be all done by hand. I am so proud that it is completely pieced together by hand without using a machine at all. I could also call this my "traveling quilt" because it has definitely traveled. When I started the quilt, I was living in Birmingham, AL, then I got married and moved to Ft. Payne, AL where we lived for about a year. We then moved to Denver, CO, which is where we live now. It has traveled across the country with us as we have moved several times. I have worked on it while driving from Denver to Hobbs, NM to visit my brother, sister-in-law, and new niece, and it has been to Destin, FL several times over the summer to visit with my family. It traveled up to Newport, VA one New Year's Eve to go to a concert, and it has also been to San Francisco, Dallas, Atlanta, and New Orleans. I even worked on it on the ten hour drive from Denver to Yellowstone National Park several years ago. Many of my friends have seen me working on this from time to time over the last eight(!) years, which is so different than the quilts I have worked on with the machine. I like that it has traveled so much, and it was easy to take with me since it was hand sewing. It is fun to look at and see how my fabric choices have changed over the last eight years. When I first started it, I was working at the Birmingham Children's Theatre as the charge scenic artist, and I would use scraps from the costume shop. This led to realizing that corduroy isn't the best choice to use for yo-yos! I have several 4x4 sections that are made that didn't make it into the final quilt from these early days due to the material I used; I didn't know that wool, silk, and cotton might not be the best mixture of fabrics if you wanted to wash it at home. I plan on using those yo-yos for a doll quilt for my daughter, so they can still be used and loved. The final quilt is 56 yo-yos across by 56 yo-yos down with the yo-yos being approximately 1-5/8 inches across. It is 90" square, which I think makes it a queen size quilt. It has 3, 156 yo-yos! Honestly, if I had known eight years ago that it would take so long, I don't know that I would have started it, but I am so glad that I did!

A place where you...can be you.
Okay, I think I may have died and gone to yo-yo heaven. These flower ornaments are my absolute favorite of all the jumbo yo-yo's that I've done so far. I'm really digging the pretty pastel colors. It reminds me of a candy from my childhood called Candy Dots. They're the little dots of sugary candy that you peeled from long strips of white paper. Somehow I remember eating more of the paper than the candy but I loved them anyway. In fact, I think I may still love them, minus the paper, of course. They're the same on both sides so the yumminess factor can be enjoyed from any direction. I'm loving the pearly striped button centers. It is a refreshing change from the usual opaque white ones. Each ornament measures 4-inches. Besides hanging from a tree, I think it would make a very sweet package tie. I'm sure I'll find many other uses for these as time goes by. Just in case you haven't noticed, I'm currently hosting a giveaway for this pretty polka dot pillow. Please comment under that post (5/19) to be eligible for the giveaway. I would like to introduce you to another fabulous blog called Sorta Frugal. This blog is bursting at the seams with a vast array of sewing and crafting projects. She is presently hosting an ABC of cool blogs. Please stop by as I'm sure you will find many new blogs to inspire you. I'm really enjoying your wonderful quotes and sayings. Yo-Yo Mania, originally uploaded by confections. My sister and I have discovered a brand-new tool by Clover which makes creating yo-yo's for quilting a simple process. We've both been quilters for over ten years, and have quite a stash of quilting fabrics to use in our yo-yo mania. The set of Clover tools we've acquired is getting a major workout! My sister has a new handbag in mind for her steadily increasing number of yo-yo's. I haven't decided yet what I will do with mine, but I like the idea of making little brooches with them. I adorned one with a favorite faceted amazonite bead. We dipped into our stash of silk dupioni, too, and created some gleamy silk confections. I want to dip some of those into a dyebath and see what happens. I'll keep you posted.

This is an Early 1930s 92 X 70 Yo Yo Handmade Quilt. It has a few places that will need repairs but they are not all that bad and I pictured one spot, it is just where some of the yo yo' s will need stitches put back in them to form the yo yo back to it's shape and a few small seams. Easy fixes and I will let the buyer do that as I do not like to alter antiques and collectibles.. It may smell a little musty as I purchased it at an Estate Sale and it have been stored away for a long time....I did hang it outside and put Fabreeze on it and it really helped a lot. Smells fresher now. You buy as is no returns. I If you have any more questions please ask before you purchase. I ship to the USA. No International Shipping. I also insure all of my packages to the USA to make sure that they arrive to you safely. Thanks for looking.

Pic.1: www.ebay.com/itm/100-2-inch-Fabric-Yo-Yo-in-Shades-of-Civil-War-Museum-reproduction-fabrics-/281858097454 A yo-yo, called also a Suffolk puff, is a small simple project in manipulating fabric. It is extremely easy to make: it can be created out of fabric leftovers, doesn't require more tools than scissors, a sewing needle and a thread. Yo-yos come out great made of medium Muslin or cotton, but if you are tempted to try more difficult materials, like silk, velvet... go for it! Any thread which doesn't snap easily will do. How to make a yo-yo? It only takes minutes... Pic.2, from: Colette Wolff, The Art of Manipulating Fabric, p.23 Cut a circle out of fabric. It has to be twice as large as the intended form a) turning the edge of circle inside, tack with even stitches. Remember: large stitches make small center opening; small stitches make it larger, b) gather tightly and flatten. What can we do with yo-yos? 1. VARIOUS ACCESSORIES Shawls, scarves... Still plugging along on the YoYo project. I have 23 complete blocks. 13 more to go. The center portions are done, I just have to add ...
My friend gave me these quilt blocks a while ago!! She found them at an estate sale and new they were old, but since she's not a quilter and she knew I was....well.....how lucky am I!! I have a secret love for old things...from furniture to trinkets to quilts and so needless to say I was ecstatic when she gave these to me! My sisters and mom also share the same love for old things, especially my sister Sherilyn. She LOVES feed sack material and so it was easy for me to know what I wanted to make her for Christmas this year! ..so I made some pillows...and I love my Longarm for the fact it stitched right through the yo yo's! I used a blue for the binding, because it's fitting for Sherilyn's decor and it's got the feed sack look. ...also if you want to buy some cheap pillow forms, just go to your local ROSS store and buy decor pillows, usually they have some on clearance for really cheap....then you just take the covers off and use them for a reference size, for your new pillow covers. ...only problem with this post, is these pillows are on their way to Florida right now! Good thing my sister doesn't check my blog daily? I think ;o) ~Jenny

Yo-yo quilts are not traditional quilts because they do not have a layer of batting and a fabric backing. The yo-yo, a rosette made from a circle of fabric, makes its own backing and creates dimension that mimics the effects of a light batting.
We had some cabinet work done recently and there was a blank wall where a cupboard used to be. Plan A was to hang a framed piece of art in the space and I may still do that. In the meantime, I have a slab of stitched together yo-yos in the spot. They add a nice touch of color. Previous yo-yo project, in neutrals.
