Textured wall weaving create a lovely effect. In this tutorial, you will learn 5 simple and easy ways to add texture to your DIY wall weaving.
Completing projects is good, and I was able to finish another commission piece this week. It will be my last for a while because my summer shows are coming up and I need to turn my attention to making some fresh pieces for art fairs. I was commissioned to create a new version of one of my earliest popular pieces called ‘A Walk in the Woods’. I pulled out my big box of green chenille thrums, most of which my husband had tied together and rolled into balls. I think the greens look very crunchy and leafy, like you’re looking into a bowl of fresh lettuce for a salad. I pulled out the combinations that worked well together, blended them in different combinations, and worked to create more depth than I had in the original piece. More recent pieces have taught me that by crocheting some of the green leaf clumps I can bring forward the canopy and move the tree trunks deeper into the background. On the forest floor I added some flowers because, well, the person who commissioned the piece wanted some! I was channeling a pleasant dog walk I had with my friend Dawn Adams last month. The dog enjoyed the freedom while we took in the emerging green and delicate spring ephemerals. Delighted by my success with my ‘Walk in the Woods’ piece I turned my creative momentum to completing my Red Gum piece. Unfortunately, my frog seems to have been awakened by the recent monsoon-like rains and hopped away. I made him a couple of months ago, and I know exactly where I left him. When I reached down to quickly capture him (he’s a good jumper even without his skin) he wasn’t there! I did have a flood in the art studio and everything got moved around. Maybe he’s still hiding down there somewhere, pining for fresh water. I should probably look around the sunken window where the waters flooded in. If he doesn’t turn up shortly I’ll have to make a new frog and find him another home when he does get hungry and turn up. Thinking about all the water has me remembering my sketches of a cool lake in northern Ontario. My next piece might just need some deep, glistening blue yarns to capture northern waters. I couldn’t write about the week with out mentioning Jacob, aka the Dodo bird from Alice in Wonderland. The performance was Thursday and Jacob was the star of the show. For me, anyway! The school sent home an ugly looking costume that was a cross between a gigantic, overweight chicken (think Foghorn Leghorn) and a University Professor (complete with a pipe for contemplation). Jacob rejected the image and came up with his own. Our journey started out at Once Upon a Child, where we bought a gray long-sleeved t-shirt for $2.50. We pulled out a bumpy feather pillow from Grandma and repurposed the feathers. Jacob used about ten hot glue sticks to lay down rows of feathers from his hands to his elbows. The outcome was very realistic. He made a big yellow beak and a tricorn hat (they were in the original instructions) to go with his feathery wings. I convinced him that wearing a long-sleeved yellow t-shirt upside down would give him the needed yellow legs (Dodos have yellow legs he noted—thanks Google!). He pulled a pair of shorts over the shirt to cover the unused neck hole and he was ready to lead the Caucus race! He acted and sang like a champion, as did all his friends in Mrs. Bland’s class. It’s enough to warm a Mom’s heart. Until next week... Martina Celerin

I'm going to call this technique doodle weaving, because there is no planned shape. Just the fun of doodling in different colors! I really love weaving like this, because it can be very creatively freeing. There is no special technique to this. Each color I wove with the plain weave and I'm sure a lot
Ashford makes many different sizes and models or Rigid heddle looms but they are called different names, knitters loom, sample it loom , for example ..however their classic Rigid Heddle Loom size 32" is what i used to weave this hand spun art yarn throw. and it is just called rigid heddel loom . One of the reasons i love the this model is because it is the only model that you can attach on their FREEDOM ROLLER . a second front cloth beam that allows you to weave longer yardage on a rigid heddle loom ! the only manufaacturer to make such an amazing reasonable priced accessory allowing longer warps ( a draw back for rigid heddle looms is that you can not put very long or very bulky warps on them the Ashford freedom roller takes care of that .) WHERE TO BUY RIGID HEDDEL LOOMS IN MY 2ND ETSY SHOP CENTERINGWITHFIBER HERE Ashford rigid heddle looms come in a flat pack unfinished. i bought a can of deft semi gloss lacquer which was plenty for 2 coats for the loom and the freedom flyer and extra heddels. it dried to the touch in 15 minutes. A blog about creating fiber art
Welcome to Muddwoman Fiber Art, the companion art to my ceramic work. Working in fiber allows me to bring my love of texture and color to an entirely new medium. Each one of my wall hangings are handwoven by me on a rigid heddle loom using many different fibers and stitches. No two are ever alike, each one being a unique piece of fiber art. I source many beautiful fibers from around the world for my woven pieces. In order to bring you these wonderful colors many of the yarns I use are hand dyed and also one of a kind fibers. This particular piece is titled Autumn Leaves and Orange Trees. From top of hanger to bottom fringe the weaving measures 50"long and 16 1/2" wide. The main woven piece measures 28" x 16 1/2". Beautiful wool yarn and wool roving combined with chenille featuring rich shades of Autumn colors are woven into a brown wool warp and highlighted with sticks from my orange tree . Mounted on a Muddwoman handmade ceramic header that features a fern texture. A beautiful art weaving to display in any room.
Born in Lima, Peru in 1980, Ana Teresa Barboza lives and works in her native city. She studied painting in the Faculty of Art at Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PCUP). Using embroidery, yarn, and wool, she creates landscapes and other imagery that exists in the space between tapestry and sculpture. Emulating the flow of waves or grass, each piece breaks out of its embroidery hoop and tumbles down the wall upon which it is being displayed.

This piece was hand-woven on a frame loom using luxury fibers - hand-dyed merino wool, hand-dyed and spun merino wool art yarn, and hung on scavenged driftwood from the Maine coast. The color story focuses on greens, purples, and hints of yellow and orange. 21 inches wide, driftwood end to end. 29 inches long from the the driftwood to the bottom of the fringe. The actual weave size is 15.5 by 28. It can be hung by the hanging thread (attached), or with two nails to set the driftwood on. Created in a smoke-free environment. Gently spot-clean with a damp cloth or shake gently to clean. Colors may look different in person than on your screen. I try to take pictures that are true to the color, but due to settings in computers, phones, or browser, they may look slightly different in person.
