Ever since then I’ve wondered what the wood actually looked like under the paint. It was painted white when we purchased the house but ... Zellige tiles or zellij is an ancestral north African art. The tradition has been treasured from one generation to another and today only very skilled craftsmen can achieve these complex geometric mosaics works. Ideal for wall and floor coverings, but also for fireplaces, fountains or even swimming pools, Moroccan tile has inspired many architects and designers to create custom original works.Zellige has been made in Morocco for over a 1000 years. Finding the highest quality clay is extremely important to produce the finest Zellige tile. The region of Fez has one of the best quality clays in Morocco. The clay is soaked in water until it reaches a soft texture. Once the clay is soft enough to handle it is filtered by hand. After filtering, a skilled craftsmen flattens the clay by hand into squares. This part is very important because the clay must be compact with no air bubbles in it.Raw Zellige clay tiles are then allowed to dry outdoors, like adobe. Most tile production takes place in the summer, early fall and spring. After the clay is shaped, molded and flattened, it is kept and stored in a cool dry place to be readied for a first bake. After the uncured Zellige tiles are dried another skilled craftsmen applies the colors to the top of the tile. Be aware that today in Morocco many tile factories use paint guns to apply colors. Using spray guns provides the same looking tiles and many more colors are available with a lower cost. The reason we don't buy spray painted tiles it is to ensure that the paint coating is thick and resistant. The Zellige tiles are now placed in natural, wood fired kilns. In traditional moroccan Zellige kilns heat circulates unevenly, resulting in slightly different tones and colors for each tile. This imperfection makes Moroccan tiles so unique and beautiful. The end product is a 4"x4" tile with uneven edges.Note: All our tiles are 100% hand made. Our factory uses the same techniques as our ancestors to ensure quality and authenticity.Zellige making is considered an art in and of itself. This art is transmitted from generation to generation by master craftsmen. There are three craftsmen needed for Zellige. The first selects the tiles and then draws the shape desired and passes the tile to the next craftsmen. The most important part of this entire process is the third craftsmen, also called the master craftsmen. He specializes in cutting the excess clay and performs precision cutting. The end results are an incredible variety of shaped pieces that are assembled to create intricate Zellige patterns. The possibilities are unlimited!

Each piece is precision-cut and planed to size, then meticulously sanded to a smooth finish with rounded edges, guaranteeing both quality and durability. Secure Installation Our mantels come with sturdy fittings that can be securely fixed into brick, stone, or breeze block walls. Additionally, they can be mounted on stud walls where timber uprights are located, ensuring a secure and lasting installation. Sustainability Matters We are committed to eco-friendly practices. Our oak is sourced from sustainably managed forests with FSC or PEFC certification. We exclusively use QP1 and QPA grade structural oak beams, minimizing the risk of cracks that could weaken the structure. This is equivalent to D24 or higher Construction grade. Minimal Movement, Maximum Beauty Our oak beams are well air-dried to minimize movement once installed in your home. Natural cracks and splits are part of the oak's unique charm and character. While these may change slightly as the beam acclimatises to room temperature, rest assured that they won't compromise the structural integrity. To minimise movement, we recommend allowing your beam to acclimatise for two weeks before fitting. Gradually increasing the heat of your stove over a few weeks after installation can also help. Unique Oak Characteristics Oak is a natural product, so knots, color variations, grain patterns, and other distinguishing features may vary from beam to beam. Some beams may exhibit small areas of pinholing, adding to the rustic effect. We treat these beams with an anti-infestation solution for your peace of mind. Bespoke Options Available Need a specific size or design? Feel free to get in touch for a customised quote. We're here to accommodate your unique requirements. Safety First Please remember that oak beams are combustible materials and should be positioned a safe distance away from heat sources in accordance with building and HETAS regulations. Installing a beam too close to a heat source may lead to excessive cracking and pose safety risks. Elevate your fireplace with the rustic beauty and timeless elegance of our oak beam mantles. Choose quality, sustainability, and customization for your home's focal point. Order yours today! Made to order solid oak beams for fireplace and mantles. Well, to be honest: I did expect a few people to like my new houses, but I was a bit overwhelmed with the reactions when I launched my little village at the showUP trade fair. What a wonderful recognition after a summer of hard work! I hope you like them too! H E I M - T I N Y H O U S E S HEIM is a village of 12 highly diverse houses: traditional, urban, rural, cosy and old but also contemporary and modern. They are genuinely prefab: pre-punched, pre-creased and with windows that have already been broken out. Even the interior walls have been provided with wallpaper in a trendy black & white print. The only thing that you, as a contractor, need to do is to glue the walls and roofs together where indicated. Finishing the houses is great fun, and once they are completed you can start shifting them around. Will your houses form a convivial village square on your table, or a ramrod-straight street on your windowsill? Will you string them into a festive garland, or give one away as a house-warming gift? TIP: Create the most amazing Advent calendar ever! Buy two sets (= 24 houses) and number them with the house numbers provided! Next, put a small gift or message in each house, to be opened on each day of Advent. HEIM, 12 pre-punched and pre-creased houses, with one sheet of stickers with house numbers. The package is A4 size, so you can easliy send it as a gift (it fits in the mailbox). Price is € 15.95 and you can buy them in my webshop!
