From her studio in Lyon, Mlle Hipolyte scores, crimps, and fringes bits of paper that become sculptural interpretations of endangered species. She undertakes a rigorous research process that’s comparable to that of a botanist or zoologist before starting a piece and largely is concerned with the effects of the climate crisis on plants and animals. This realistic approach bases her practice in both preservation and celebration as she conveys the intricacies and natural beauty of coral reefs, flowers, and birds through works that vary in scale, sometimes spanning entire walls and others squeezing into tiny glass tubes. Artist Ellen Jewett refers to her sculptural work as “natural history surrealist sculpture,” a blend of plants, animals, and occasionally human-made structures or objects. Her artwork is deeply informed by an extensive background in anthropology, medical illustration, exotic animal care, and even stop-motion animation, all of which accentuate the biological structure of each piece, while freeing her imagination to pursue more abstract ideas. Over time, Jewett has become more focused on minimizing materials and relying a negative space. More
'Two girls among flowers' - Odilon Redon 1909 Barbara Dunshee jar with curly handled lid Elusive spring : Spring has been a little bit erratic and evasive of late, hijacked by both Winter and Summer. Along with delicate flowers in porcelain, Berlin-based artist Angelika Arendt applies minuscule orbs, dots, and thin, curved lines to her meticulously textured sculptures. Amorphous in shape but distinct in the organic matter they evoke, her intricate works often mimic processes found in nature, including plant growth and cells as they swell and burst into new life. Some pieces appear mid-movement, like expanding molecules, and others drip or peel to reveal fields thick with foliage and other tactile elements. More

ABOUT - Flora Bronze Sculpture by Christine Baxter. -MEASUREMENTS- 53 x 46 x 36cm - DESCRIPTION - Flora was a model that I had when I was teaching how to make a portrait bust, and my method of teaching was to do one stage and for the class to follow me as I do it. At the end of the three-day class, I had a good portrait but hadn’t bothered to finish the hair or any of the details, and I wondered what to do with her. I had recently finished the dream sculpture, where I had loosely finished the areas in clay. The flowers and the hair are roughly made with wet clay. Landa takes inspiration from classical sculpture, product and commercial design, and even the culinary world, evidenced by her current body of work.
