Today I am going to share a fun yard art project that I am calling screwball flowers. I had seen these floating around FB and no tutorial, but had to have some of my own. Really wasn’t sure what to call them, but these are made from a wood ball and screws. Hence the name screwball flowers. The ones that I had seen on FB may have been made using golf balls. Not having any golf balls but knowing that I could find some large wood balls at Hobby Lobby I decided to go with that.

Purple Coneflower Seeds (Echinacea) Open Pollinated, Non-GMO. Cheaper Prices on my Website GransGardenSeeds.com, over 25 seeds per package. Purple Coneflower is a popular prairie wildflower that is easily identified by its gorgeously dark, cone-shaped flower with purple petals. This is a drought resistant perennial flower that is guaranteed to attract birds and pollinators to your garden. It is a very hardy perennial flower here in the South. Each year the cluster comes back fuller and is so showy in the garden. It stands tall and seems to say, Hello Spring I am here until the first frost hits. It will die back in the winter but emerges in the spring with such beauty and force. It rarely needs watering, it is very drought resistant. It is one of those wonderful plants in your garden that rather be left alone. Of course cutting the dried out heads in winter and collect seeds is a must, or leave it for the birds to forge on. Plant Type: Perennial Flower Grows Best In: Full Sun Days to Germination: 10-12 Days Days To Bloom: 60-90 Days Planting Depth: .25" Seed Spacing: Sow Purple Coneflower seeds roughly 18" apart. Growing Height: 30-42" Instructions: After all danger of frost, sow Purple Coneflower seeds in open ground well exposed. Cover with 0.25" of soil. For earlier blooms, start indoors about 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost. When plants are 2" high, thin or transplant. Suggestions: Dramatic background plant for a flower bed, herb garden bed, perennial bed, wildflower, or rock garden. Long-lasting cut flower.
