in a mad rush toward this weekend's school festival craft stall we made gnomes ~ gnomes galore! loads of teeny tiny gnomes in matchboxes and in pendant pouches some simple standing gnomes and even some knitted gnomes Here is the little pattern I made up for the knitted gnomes ~ Use size 4 -5 knitting needles – 8 ply wool scraps Head – Cast on 18 stiches in your choice of skin colour Row 1: knit, row 2: purl. Repeat for a total of 10 rows Body – Change wool to main suit colour and knit 16 rows (26row total) Legs – Knit across first 9 stitches; place other 9 stitches on a small stitch holder Knit a further 9 rows, cast off leaving a tail of about 6 inches. For the second leg pick up the other 9 stitches and knit 10 rows. Cast off leaving a tail of about 6 inches. Gather up both feet and stitch up the legs/body to the head section. Arms – Cast on 8 stitches in skin colour Row 1: knit, row 2: purl Change to main body colour and knit a further 6 rows, cast off leaving a tail of a few inches (8 rows in total). Repeat for second arm. Gather hand end and stitch up arm seam leaving top open for stuffing – stuff. Hat – Cast on 24 stitches in your choice of hat colour Rows 1 and 2: knit Row 3: purl Row 4: knit two together at each end Row 5: purl Repeat rows 4 and 5 until 16 stitches remain Then only decrease every second knit row until only 10 stitches remain Then knit two together every knit row until only one stitch remains – cast off leaving a 6 inch tail and sew up the seam. To make up – Gather head and stitch up head seam – leave a 1 inch opening for stuffing – stuff legs, body and head. Close the seam. Use body colour to weave in and out around neck. Pull fairly tightly to form neck and wrap around twice, tie a knot and bury it inside to finish the neck. Stitch arms to body and attach hat to top of head. My 100 post giveaway is still open til Sunday night. If you would like to put your name in the hat you can do it here

I'm so excited to share these little animals I knit to go along with The Mitten by Jan Brett! Elise and I both love them so much, we're having trouble deciding who gets to sleep with them at night... ;) It was so much fun making this beloved story come to life. Elise knew exactly what I was up to - she even helped me choose the yarn! Whenever she overheard me telling someone about my project, she would start sneezing like the bear does at the end of the story,"Aaaa-choooo!!!!" The Mitten is one of those stories that is especially fun to retell with props... Alone... ...or with a friend! For all of you knitters out there, I made most of the animals from patterns I found on Ravelry. The badger, mole, and mouse were my own inventions! Here are a few pattern links, if you're feeling inspired to make your own set: bear fox (modified) owl rabbit hedgehog mitten Find me on Ravelry here and Facebook here!

I've finished knitting this little puppy his very own knitted blanket... And that, my friends, is the completion of my Ravelympics projects for this year! This pattern "Wrap me up Puppies" is also from the book Itty Bitty Toys. I just love this book. This is now the 3rd pattern I've knit from it. I'm pretty sure that Susan B. Anderson is a toy knitting genius. My daughter absolutely loves putting her stuffed animals and dolls to bed. That is by far her favorite playtime activity. From the first time I flipped through this pattern book, I knew that this is a toy that I would definitely make one day. I just love how you can wrap this little blanket around and fasten it up like a little puppy burrito. Very clever. This puppy and blanket only took a few days to knit, and was the easiest toy out of the 3 to make. I would definitely consider making this one again. My daughter is of course thrilled to add puppy to her knitted toy collection.. ...which is growing quite large these days...

Like, everyone else, my posts have been few and far between of late. What's keeping me busy these days? Schooling Sewing Crocheting Baking Cookies Caring for our Nursing Student, who has 4 impacted wisdom teeth extracted during Winter Break Training a New Puppy who thinks she needs to TRAIN US on taking her out to piddle every hour on the hour. Christmas Get-togethers And just life in general. . . But mostly I have been trying to get things on my Etsy Shop. Here's the latest -- my third Bitty Baby/Twin outfit. I decided to go trendy with this one, rather than do my usual traditional or historical outfits. I love seeing young girls in this style and thought it would be fun to dress a doll in it. It was sort of nice to step out of my mold for a while and shake things up a little. I decided to add an extra piece so that some little girl can have two outfits and get some extra play from it. Not like anybody has minutes to spare this month, but if you do and you'd like to take a peek . . . here's a link to my shop. I know I'm partial, but I love the hat. I guess it does what a hat ought to do . . . top things off! Do what's keeping you BUSY these days?
