This pattern is for the willow tit and crested tit which form pattern 3 of the A Year of Flowers for Foxy quilt. The block measures 18 by 16" The quilt itself is in my usual style, so it is a patchwork background with raw edge applique sewn with free-motion embroidery. You don't need a fancy machine to stitch it but your machine needs to be able to do free-motion embroidery. The pattern contains basic instructions for the patchwork. I won't go into a lot of detail on patchwork as I am assuming that you know the basics but other than the odd half-square triangle, it is all pretty simple. I use raw edge techniques and the patterns are using those instructions, but you could also use needle turn techniques, but no instructions will be given. For some of the pieces, you would need additional fabric to use needle-turn. Hopefully that all makes sense, but please don't hesitate to ask if anything is unclear.

Freeform embroidery on recycled silk/wool fabric. Aprox. 13x13 inches To see more of my embroidery go here: www.flickr.com/photos/jacquedavis/sets/72157623853032506 At the Teacher's Recycle Center in St. Louis the items are $1 a pound. I snagged a bunch of wonderful upholstery sample pieces, and this is stitched on one of those pieces. When I do free form embroidery I usually start by stitching a large element. On this piece, the "patchwork" rocket was the initial element. Then I keep adding more and more things to work off of each other. The fun thing about free form embroidery is there is no pattern to follow. Each time I start a new color of thread, I get to choose what to use it for and where to put it. (And yes, I am horribly lazy, the back of this has threads crisscrossing all over the place - probably why I never can stitch kitchen towels). I have stitched my own and also commercial patterns, but it's weird, the really big difference in doing free form embroidery and stitching a pattern, is that sometimes when I'm doing a pre-set pattern, I get bogged down with completing part of it. I stitched up one of my drawings a while back "Cable TV ate my life". www.flickr.com/photos/jacquedavis/3215227551/in/set-72157... I stopped on it for months, because I just couldn't face finishing the lettering. But with free form embroidery, I can choose whatever I please, wherever I want and I guess because of that, I don't get bogged down on a piece. I have been having crazy fun doing freeform embroidery since December 2009 - (this was the second piece I did, see the first one here: www.flickr.com/photos/jacquedavis/4201049312/in/set-72157... And I have been stitching up a storm, I even sent my brother an embroidered Birthday card this year. www.flickr.com/photos/jacquedavis/4309448323/in/set-72157... I'm just having a lot of fun with it. - And my brother said he DID like his card.

.....bold and colorful vintage 1970's Mola needle art piece featuring vibrant red, yellow, and green fabric in a cool, modern design stitched over a black background....Molas are handmade textiles made using a reverse applique technique---several layers (usually between 2-7) of different colored cloth are sewn together.....the design is then formed by cutting away parts of each layer....the edges of the layers are then turned under and sewn down.....it's an art form native to parts of South America, and it has been practiced for well over 100 years....this particular piece is really nice, and definitely has a 1970's vibe to it....it's in excellent condition, and is nicely framed... Dimensions: 17"H x 23"W Free Shipping!!Each and every piece Mod8 sells should be considered in very good vintage condition, unless specifically stated otherwise. What "very good vintage condition" means: the piece looks great....it may have a small amount of finish wear, but nothing major....the piece is structurally in great shape---solid, sturdy, and functional. If a piece shows wear beyond this, I'll always note it in the description....along the same lines, if a piece has been restored or refinished, I'll detail that as well. If you have any questions on condition, please feel free to reach out. Thanks, Bo.

This is a 24 page PDF Download Tutorial I love creating abstract quilts, to my mind, it allows for a range of freedom experienced nowhere else in quilting, other than when doing crazy quilts of course. When I began to think about this technique I envisioned a vortex or a whirlpool. I didn't want to create anything too structured and I wanted a free flow rough edged version as well as a folded fabric version. I prepared a pile of strips in a chosen color family and sat down to play. I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly the technique that I had envisioned in my mind came together under the needle. The second, the folded edge one took a while longer to create after I had invested a bit more time thinking about how to do it. This tutorial has two art quilt techniques – a rough edge spiral and a folded fabric spiral. I enjoyed creating both. I hope you do too. You will also learn how to bind and prepare your quilted art work for hanging. You don't need to buy any special tools for this, a regular domestic sewing machine will do the job. When I teach I don't know what machines or tools people will have and I want everyone to be able to use my techniques without having to spend any money to buy new machines or expensive tools. My tutorials are designed to be used with a standard domestic straight stitch machine..You can also reuse fabrics you have at home to recreate them into a beautiful piece of fabric. Tein uuden luonnoksen (kuva).
