Got a Light is a minimalist abstract visual artwork hand drawn on acetate. The composition depicts a forecourt of an old Texaco fuel station. The station looks deserted, there is an old Texaco sign and what looks like disused fuel pumps. The picture is based on a loose sketch of an original photograph. Acetate sheets with ink pens were used to draw the basic composition. The acetate sheet was then lit with a light table and photographed. The image falls primarily to black, as the tone curve of the image was inverted to make a ‘negative image’. What is Got a Light trying to convey? Is this a depiction of the death of oil? There seem to be no more customers either through choice, shortage or cost. The scene seems to exist now only for the aesthetic pleasure of the viewer – admiring the designs of old buildings and old signs that have passed into history. - part of a series of images based on creating 'negative-like' representations of objects and scenes, to express them in unusual colour schemes and to explore the essential compositional elements of which the image is comprised.
