Happy Sunday! Time for another Second Look Sunday post. For those of you that are new followers, on the second Sunday of each month I highlight and share a quilt tutorial from past years that you might have missed the first time around. This month I chose to re-share a favorite crib size quilt tutorial. This one only needs 7 fat quarters and some background fabric to make a 48" x 55" quilt. The pattern is called Zoo Dwellers, based on the fabrics that I made the very first version from oh-so-many years ago (2011). I love how quickly this quilt comes together- there are no blocks to piece, or triangles to trim. Just find some favorite fabrics and let them be the star! You can get access to the free PDF download pattern here, and if you make a Zoo Dwellers quilt & want to share it, be sure to use the hashtags #zoodwellersquilt and #abrightcornerpatterns so we can all see your creations! And if you're not quite ready to make a Zoo Dwellers quilt but want to save it for later, take a second and pin this image below so you can find it when you need it! Happy sewing! --Andy
Are you a fat quarter collector? I love fat quarters and tend to collect them when I visit my local quilt shops. This particular bundle from my favorite quilt shop Crimson Tate was just too cute to pass up. I love the colors and the pirate theme in the prints.
Good morning! Today, I'd like to welcome you to the start of a new series called "Friday Favorites". Fridays will be a fun day here on the blog, where I'll share some of my favorite quilty things with you - such as quilt blocks, notions, books, bloggers, etc. I hope this will be a good resource place for some of our favorites. So I encourage you to add to my lists in the comment section each time. I'll do Friday Favorites as long as you guys are liking it and as long as I'm feeling inspired! Also, if you have any suggestions for themes leave those ideas in the comments as well. Today I've put together a round-up of some of my favorite, seriously darling (and free!) quick quilt patterns. I've made a few really fast quilts recently (see HERE and HERE) which is what prompted this idea. I figured we all need some fast project ideas in our arsenals so here you go. I scoured the internet high and low for my favorites so I hope you like this list as much as I do! I'm a big believer that a great quilt doesn't have to be complicated or time consuming. With the right fabrics, every quilt can be beautiful! And the great thing about these quilts is that it's possible to make all of them in a day and they're all free patterns! Can you believe that!?! I've included the links to each one. Enjoy! 1. Star Baby Quilt by Amy at Diary of a Quilter 2. Scrappy Gingham Quilt by Allison at Cluck Cluck Sew 3. Are any of them speaking to you right now? Tell me your favorite quick quilt pattern (from my list or your own) in the comments below. Creating this list really got my creative juices flowing. I think I feel a scrappy 16-Patch coming on... Have a great weekend friends!
Well hello there! I know I've been sharing a lot of single blocks lately and I'm so happy to be able to share a finished quilt today. And there's a bonus - I've got a free PDF pattern to go along with it! This is Simple Bricks - a fat quarter friendly pattern that sews up quickly since there's no tricky piecing or seams that need to match up! The finished quilt measures 63" x 72" and needs just 11 fat quarters and just over a yard of background fabric. The fabric I used for this quilt is from a line called Wonder Full. It's designed by Elizabeth Clark (Lizzie Clark Designs) for Sweet Bee Designs. There's been a lot of fun projects being created lately with this pretty fabric! I fell in love with those rich berry colors combined with the navy. And then you throw that mustard color in there and I just couldn't resist! I paired the prints with a super soft chambray which made the perfect background. I didn't want the background to be too stark- like a white would be. The chambray blended beautifully and adds some lovely texture to the quilt as well. You can grab the free Simple Bricks quilt pattern here. Pretty please use this for your personal use only! If you're a shop please just send customers here to download their own copy of the pattern. Thank you! If you make a Simple Bricks quilt I'd love to see it. Tag me on Instagram and use the hashtags #simplebricksquilt and #abrightcornerpatterns so we can all see what you've created! Want to see more projects using Wonder Full? Hi Quilty Friends! Today I'm sharing a FREE quilt pattern - available HERE! The Fat Eight Flapjacks Quilt designed by Fat Quarter Shop is a fun and quick quilt to make! It's perfect for Fat Eighth bundles or your stash. I used the fabulous Golden Hour Fat Quarter Bundle designed by Alexia Abegg for Ruby Star Society. You can totally use Fat Quarters as (1) Fat Quarter = (2) Fat Eighth. I totally LOVE the colors of the Golden Hour Collection. Alexa also just released her latest fabric collection: Heirloom, which has similar colors and would look fabulous too! Fat Eighth Flapjacks Quilt 50" x 60" Supplies (for lap size with border - 60.5" x 70.5) clickable links below Fat Eighth Flapjacks Quilt FREE pattern 22 Fat Eighths OR 11 Fat Quarters - Golden Hour Fat Quarter Bundle designed by Alexia Abegg for Ruby Star Society 2 yards Background and Border Fabric - Specked White Gold designed by Rashida Coleman-Hale for Ruby Star Society 0.75 yard Binding- Golden Hour Fat Quarter Bundle designed by Alexia Abegg for Ruby Star Society 4 yards Backing My Fat Eighth Flapjacks Quilt is missing the outer border...this was an unintentional design, but I love it! I was basting my quilt and couldn't figure out why my backing fabric was soooooo large compared to my quilt top. I thought I must have measured my quilt backing incorrectly so I continued to baste my quilt and then trimmed off the excess batting. THEN I realized I had forgotten to add the border....oops! I tried new free motion quilting with loops (some large and some small) and I LOVE it! No marking was needed as I made the loops fit within the block strips! It did take quite a bit of time and thread for this quilting design, but so worth it! My Golden Hour Fat Quarter Bundle has more than 11 Fat Quarters so I had enough fabric for a scrappy binding, which I totally love!
