This chair was harboring some secrets. It had been through at least two different owners before our furniture flipper Amanda of Reloved Home Designs got her hands on it. I'm not saying the chair had a rough life, but it was barely holding itself together. Unlike Miranda Lambert who holds herself together like a pair of bookends according to Blake Shelton's song. (I assume he is singing about her.) This is what happened when Amanda removed the seat from this chair to reupholster it. Yep! It fell apart. Not one to run from a challenge, Amanda rebuilt the chair adding wood glue and screws to ensure it would be sturdy again. Then she painted it using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Emperor's Silk. She mixed dark wax and clear wax then applied it to the chair. For the cushion, Amanda found a beautiful remnant fabric at an outlet store and recovered it. Let's take a look at this chair now... What a transformation! Amanda loaded it up and took it to a craft fair. Once there, it caught the eye of a young lady who's friend tried it out and deemed it "comfortable" to which the buyer replied, "I don't even care if it is." Home it went with her where we can only assume it is now living happily ever after. You can follow along on the adventures of Amanda and Reloved Home Design on her Facebook Page. There you will see more examples of her work and find pieces available for purchase. She is located north of Chicago in Volo, Illinois. Let her know you saw her on Furniture Flippin'. Thanks so much Amanda for sharing your stunning furniture flip. Dear readers, don't forget we are currently accepting your witty comments AND your furniture flippin' submissions. I'd love for you to be a part of one of our features on here. Email before/after photos and a ton of details to me at [email protected] . See you tomorrow! ~ Stephanie

I'll say this about Donna from Painted Past Designs she "ain't skeered" and "she's not no chicken either"! Same thing, really. Eh, it's early. Don't be too harsh on me. Now, when Donna emailed me her flip she had enclosed a warning label, similar to this one... There, you've been warned. Let's get to the flip! Donna has a favorite thrift store where everybody knows her name and she knows theirs, too! She arrived early one day and patiently waited until they opened. Once they did, she made a beeline across the room and staked her claim to this guy wrapping her arms around him and declaring, "MINE!". Here's the object of her affection... He was in decent enough shape with a few veneer chips and a missing drawer pull. Donna wasn't planning on fixing the veneer because paint is what she does. She's an American Paint Company Distributor. Home he went with her to her shop where he waited for her to choose what color to paint him. Donna went with Navajo White and Smoke Signal. She set to work on him and midway through she called a do-over and tackled him from another angle. Once she got the paint just right, she applied two coats of top coat and lightly polished with sandpaper. Then she called it a day. Are you ready to see the finished look? Are you really ready?? Here he is... Looks pretty cool! The details really stand out on it now! You can visit more with Donna on her Painted Past Designs Facebook page. Let her know you saw her on Furniture Flippin'! Donna, you brave woman! (I, Stephanie, AM a CHICKEN! Bawk, bawk!) Thanks for sharing your outstanding furniture flip!
This month's Fab Furniture Flippin' Contest theme was Spray Me Pretty. I used the HomeRight sprayer and turned a piano into an awesome bar.
This is a sponsored post. Welcome, friends! I had such a great time working on this project for The Fab Furniture Flippin’ Contest! This month's theme is Garden Treasures and is sponsored by Modge Podge. I think what I loved about it most about this piece was that I got to be super creative and add in a truly special detail using my Modge Podge. But, before I get into exactly what I did, here is the before. It's another one of those pieces that I can envision the outcome immediately, but leaves my family wondering why I would ever have bought this! I removed the hardware and patched the holes (along with lots of gouges) and removed the drop down desk. My youngest painted it in a summery bamboo green and I distressed, aged it and added on simple wood knobs. I found this beautiful butterfly paper that complimented the theme of this month's contest so well. I love the colors and that it focuses on the beauty of summer outside. I cut my paper to the length and width of my drawer sides. And, adhered them using the instructions on the bottle. This was so much easier than I thought. Don't be intimidated! Here it is, all finished! I think it's so unexpected and elevates a simple piece to the next level. You can use this piece in virtually every room in your home (including as a cat hang out apparently,) but how sweet would it be left with the drawers opened like this and filled with flowers on a covered porch! September is here and so is the fantastic Fab Furniture Flippin' Contest with this month's theme - Geometric Design! Come and see what I made this month..
It is one's hope that when you visit a trendy hair salon that you will leave looking your absolute best. Well, in the case of today's furniture flip, it ARRIVED at the salon looking the BEST it's ever looked...all thanks to the two Kathleens of Sandpaper. (Isn't that just the coolest and simplest name? Sandpaper. Who'd a thunk it? Them, that's who!) The girls of Sandpaper found this ginormous beast of a china cabinet and lugged that baby back to their workspace. Then they started brainstorming. You know what they say! Two Kathleens are better than one! (I don't know...I don't think anybody really says that but in this case it works.) They settled on making this an open shelf display cabinet. Once they began, they found that it needed a lot more work than it first appeared. Did that scare them off? Heck no! They took it apart and saw that the top had a lot of damage. So, they swapped it for a new one. They removed the glass doors, glass sides, and replaced the bottom damaged shelf. They took the gold metal parts from the front doors and repurposed them on the side of the shelves. (Genius!) They also special ordered glass shelves for it. Then came the fun part. The making her pretty again part. They painted her with Annie Sloan Graphite and Old White. Then sanded, waxed it with clear wax and then dark wax on the detailed parts. Now mid-way through the project they had to set her aside while they worked their magic on some pieces for the opening of the Amber Gold Salon. It was while working on those pieces that they learned the salon owner was looking for a display case for her shop. Lightbulb moment! They had just the thing for her to use. Are you ready for the reveal? It's a beauty and commands a lot of attention at it's new location... Gorgeous!!! You have to check out their Sandpaper blog for the step by step of this makeover. I skipped over some of the details, but you are going to want to see the steps in pictures, too. So, get on over there. The girls of Sandpaper are located in Indiana. They can pretty much do anything. They love all things vintage, pretty, and anything that needs to be refreshed and loved again. They're in the process of opening up their own shop. You can check them out on their Sandpaper Facebook page, too. Let them know you saw them on Furniture Flippin'. Thanks Kathleen and Kathleen for sharing your fabulous furniture flip! If you have a furniture flip you'd like us to share, feel free to email us before & after pics plus all of the details to [email protected] . The more info the better! Now, get out there and rescue some furniture people! ~ Stephanie
