We’re well into spring in November which is a popular time of year for doing Garden Tours. Thankfully, there are plenty of public gardens around Auckland where I live, that can be visited, even for free, and most of them I’m sure will be looking good at this time of year. The Winter Gardens at the Auckland Domain are a good example. They basically consist of 2 large greenhouses separated by a large courtyard and fernery. One the greenhouses is filled with subtropical plants while the other one focuses more on perennials and annuals, etc. and although one of them was closed for maintenance when I visited, the other greenhouse did not disappoint. I was like a kid in a candy shop not sure of where to point my camera first. It was a veritable feast of colours, shapes and textures. Plenty of inspiration for both the gardener in me and the photographer and artist too. The display of Foxgloves looked amazing. The fernery was stunning too and while there wasn’t much in the way of colour, there was more than enough textures and shades of green to make up for it. So if you ever get the chance to visit Auckland, be sure to visit the Domain and Winter Gardens. I’m sure you’ll be glad you did.

Update: Now regularly posting on my new blog Niki Fretwell. . source On June 29th, my blog was 9 years old. Also on June 29th we began a rather epic 4 day move to our new home... As anyone who has moved house will know, it is a stressful process. We have been through several ups and downs over the past year, but finally the moving date was set and we hardly dare breath until the completion phone calls were made... All our worldly good were packed onto a large lorry and trailer and finally after a day and a half, The Stone House lay bare... It has been a happy family home for us all, but times change and now it's just hubby and me, we are ready for a new challenge... So as my blog reaches its natural end, I'd just like to thank all who have visited over the past 9 years. It has been a great experience to keep my blog journal and it has been wonderful to share over 1200 post with you. I am overjoyed to say that we have now moved-in to our dream home down a narrow little lane, in peaceful, rural Devon, (something we have always hoped and yearned for)...A bit of a project, but one we wholeheartedly embrace... A new and more private lifestyle awaits and so after having the internet connected to our home today, I bid you farewell from my blog. Thank you, Love Niki xx source
