What a cute way to give a gift card or cash! Scrolling through Instagram the other day, I saw a little video by Tanu Creative – it was a card that had this cute little gift bag pop up when yo…
The new Myths and Magic DSP is such fun. With wizards and unicorns, mermaids and dragons you will adore this fun paper. I used mine to create this fun Castle theme gift box, complete with dealing knights and fire breathing dragons. This idea can be adapted to any box really as what we have done is created a facade... a fake front to our box making it into a castle. I would however suggest using a box with some height and equal sized sides. I created a very basic 3 x 3 x 3" sized bow with a lid then crated four castle shaped panels, each had hand drawn walls. I then simply fussy cut some of the cute images from the myths and magic DSP and mounted them on mini dimentionals... Super easy and quick to make and the box I used is a great size for sweet treats as a party favour or birthday gift. If you fancy giving this project a try I have a full step by step tutorial for you to follow. measurements and products used are listed below. So grab a brew get comfy and enjoy the video. measurements Box:- cut card to 8 15/16th x 8 15/16" score on all four sides at 3" Lid:- cut card to 5 x 5" score on all four sides at 1" form box as per instructional Youtube video Castle was cut four pieces 2 7/8 x 3 1/2" Product List Neutrals Best 12" X 12" Cardstock Pack [145411] Card Stock A4 Smoky Slate [131291] Myths & Magic Specialty Designer Series Paper [145600]

by the pricking of my thumbs something wicked this way comes... This box was purely for fun. I love Halloween and I love these lines from Macbeth. It had to be a blustery, Autumnal day. I wanted a broomstick - in the air, an old, twisted hat (made from velvet paper), and a book of spells. There's a 'bobbly eye' on the front cover... ...that bobbles when the book is opened. I think I love Halloween more than Christmas. Is that bad? X Here's what I used to make the box: Stamps; Basic Grey clear stamps set 'Eerie Collection' (for the box and inside panels). I used the large web. Stamped with VersaFine 'Onyx Black' and highlighted with black holographic glitter. Star Highlights on inside panels; A star background stamp I made myself (I have the Imagepac Daylight Stamp maker) Stamped using IndigoBlu 'FlitterGlu' - FABULOUS glue! and sprinkled with holographic gold glitter. Spell book stamp; Hero Arts wood mounted rubber stamp 'Small Script'. Stamped using Tim Holtz Distress Inks 'Brushed Corduroy'. I also aged the pages with this colour. The page edges are highlighted with ultrafine brown glitter. Punches; Mini spider punch (monocodirect.co.uk). Xcut botanical embossing punches; Oak Beech Woodware small maple leaf. Leaves inked with; Crushed Corduroy Rusty Hinge Spiced Marmalade Mustard Seed Crushed Olive Box panels inked with; Rusty Hinge Spiced Marmalade Mustard Seed Crushed Olive The Bats; I drew the bats (using a white pencil) onto black card and cut them out. I applied Woodware black 'Fluffy Stuff' to their bodies. Broomstick; Handle; A straightened paperclip bound with a glue soaked length of kitchen towel. Inked with 'Brushed Corduroy' and 'Crushed Olive' after it had dried. Broom Head; A length of brown paper inked with the above colours. I cut fine slits along the full width then rolled it onto the handle, applying small amounts of glue along the way. I wrapped a small length of sewing cotton near the top - to mimic a rope tie. Finishing with highlights of clear and brown glitter. Witches Hat; I made this from black 'Velvet Paper'. It held its shape well but was a 'Devil' to stick! -o-
CLICK ON IMAGES FOR A CLOSER VIEW I'd been playing with mica and thought how well it would suit butterfly wings. These are painted with mica pigment 'Festive Brights'. The butterfly stamp is by Personal Impressions Unfortunately it doesn't seem to have a name, just a code: P547 E. The rounded shape reminded me of the butterflies depicted in traditional Japanese art.. Using mustard coloured card as the base seemed to enhance the colours of the mica pigment.. I wanted to carry the 'shimmer' effect throughout the box but decided not to use mica pigment on the panels it would have overpowered the butterflies. so Using ivory pearlescent card as the base I inked with the green and blue from Rangers Big & Juicy 'Mountain Meadow'. To add a final touch of luxury I stamped Hero Arts 'Leaf Flourish' in VersaMark and embossed with gold. Mounting the panels onto gold mirror board framed them nicely and added weight to the sides which always helps with 'the drop'. I must say, I thought glitter was difficult to capture in a photograph but mica is a nightmare! Thankyou for visiting. X
I've got a LOT to share with you today. Not only do I have two fun cards, but it's the first of the month. So you'll want to not only watch my how-to video for both of these cards, but
This box was a little bit of playtime for me. It's the only one that I managed to take photographs of during the 'design/making process' - I'll be doing more of this in future. CLICK ON IMAGES TO SEE THEM IN MORE DETAIL Box Design and construction details Panels Sky - pale blue card chalked with blue. Grass - lime green card, chalked, torn and cut. Bee Hive - stamped using a stamp I designed. I stamped the single image three times. Roughly pencilled in where I wanted the tags. Cut out. Glued the tags together to dimension the hive. BeesFrom the same stamp set I stamped the bees onto acetate using Stazon Black ink. Crystal glittered the wings. Cut each bee out. I stamped again onto lightweight card. Using markers I then coloured the bodies. Glittered the black with black holographic glitter. Cut out the bodies. Glued the bodies to the acetate bees. FlowersMade using a small daisy punch and a five petal flower punch. The daisy is constructed from two punch-outs, layered together. The small flower is dimensioned using the same technique as my earlier box 'Violets' I never glue anything down until I've played with the positioning of all the elements I'm going to use. Once I'm happy it's glue time! Thanks for visiting -
Dawn Magical Box A Must Try. The magical box is perfect for a sweet treat or to give money on a special occasion. Note that the actual effect of the magic of this box refers to the quick video below.
CANDY NOW CLOSED CLOSES FRIDAY 26th FEBRUARY 2010 At last I'm back! Between the terrible weather and family seasonal illnesses I feel like I've been out of action forever!!! As a late Blogoversry celebration I've made this box for someone to win. There's also a small bundle to go with it - Butterfly stamps, a pack of acetate sheets, black holographic & crystal ultrafine glitter, a pack of small gemstones and a black Sakura Glaze pen. All you have to do is leave a comment on this post and I will draw the winner on Friday 26th February. I am happy to post Internationally. CLICK ON IMAGES FOR A CLOSER VIEW I always edge the butterflies using a black Sakura gel pen - it punches the black forward after colouring. Black holographic glitter is perfect for defining the body markings and wing tips. Crystal glitter can be used on it's own - it allows the underlying colour to shine through. I often mix it with coloured glitter to give more sparkle and it acts a little bit like adding water to watercolour paint - making the coloured glitter translucent. I wrap a small amount of Blu-Tack round the end of a fine embossing tool to pick up the small gemstones when I'm gluing them to the panels, it's much easier than using tweezers. I would like to say a BIG HUGE THANKS for your patience, support and encouragement over the past year it has meant so much to me. Good Luck! THIS CANDY IS NOW CLOSED The winner's name will be posted shortly!
