This wasn't the tutorial I had planned for gslcuts.com this month. A string of unfortunate events led to my planned project to sit in a state of disrepair. What's a girl to do? Scramble! If you visit this blog often, you'll know I came up with these rotten smelly dragon jars about a week ago. I was planning a tutorial in the future, but circumstances put a 'RUSH' on those plans. The Dragons Shape Set used is pretty handy. There are two designs in three sizes so you can create a both quart and pint sized jars with just one set. The wings need to be bent to fit them in the jar, but they are sturdy things and will survive the ordeal ;) These are made using a different technique than the fairy jars and, believe it or not, I haven't even added lights to these. Those shadows are entirely from backlighting. Pop them up on a window sill, or in front of a light, and you should see your small smelly dragon in it's stinky jar quite well. Now, I know that people are going to say they want to use these as nightlights, but really, dragons like their sleep and dark places. Best to let them rest at night rather than keep them up past their bedtime! Below you'll find how to make these terrible things. Or watch it on youtube here. Just a couple of additional notes: • To soften the streaks/drips you'll want to mist with water while still wet • Apply several layers of brown wash to get a really dirty grimy look • Why add glitter? It adds texture and give the paint something to grip. Plus, a little sparkle isn't a bad thing. But if you want to skip this part, go ahead. Inspired to make your own dragon jars? Be sure to tag me when you show them off. If you try your hand at this project for your own blog, be sure to link back and gimme a shout out, please and thank-you! Here's what you'll need to make them: Dragons Shape Set Glass jar Acrylic paint Clear glitter White glue Cheesecloth FlowerSoft-Ultra Fine Twine Charm & embellishments P.S. Once again, a note about fire safety. DO NOT put live flame candles in these jars. I like you, you're a good egg and I don't want to see you hurt.

Today I decided to translate one of my old crochet tutorials. Although : old ? This tutorial is one of the most red blog posts at my blog, even today it is still one of my most popular tutorials. I used the British-English terms. I made 3 of these lights and they are very beautiful hanging in the garden with a tea light . I used a jar from bio yoghurt from the local supermarket. But you can use any jar you want : just adjust the number of stitches and rows if necessary. - Yarn : I used Puppets Eldorado from ' Veritas ' in ecru. I like this yarn because it is fine yarn. Rij 2 : Haak 2 vasten in elke onderliggende vaste = 12 steken. Rij 3 : Haak 2 vasten in elke 2de vaste = 18 vasten. Rij 4 : Haak in elke derde vaste 2 vasten = 24 steken. . Start with a crocheted circle, size 5,5 cm. I improvised a bit while making it, but this is more or less the way I did it : Row 1 : Make a magic circle with 6 double crochet and close with a slip stitch. Row 2 : Start with 1 chain. Crochet 2 double crochet in each double crochet from the row beneath. Close with a slip stitch ( you need to do that at the end of every row but I'm not going to repeat it every time : now you know it ;) ) = 12 stitches. Row 3 : 2 double crochet in each second double crochet from the row beneath = 18 stitches. Row 4 : 2 double crochet in each third double crochet from the row beneath = 24 stitches. Row 5 : repeat row 4 = 32 stitches Row 6 : repeat row 4 = 40 stitches Row 7 : repeat row 4 = 52 stitches Row 8 : 2 double crochet in each fourth double crochet from the row beneath = 62 stitches. Row 9/10/11 : At that moment I decided ( hé ! I was improvising, remember ;) ) I had enough stitches so I crocheted 3 rows of double stitches = 62 stitches. Row 12 : 2 double crochet in every tenth double stitch from the row beneath = 82 and a circle as shown on the picture above. Row 13 : Double crochet, but crochet each stitch only in the outside ' leg ' of the stitch from the row beneath ( the outside half of the 'v'-shaped stitch from the row beneath, as shown on the picture ). That way your crocheting starts to ' climb ' instead of continuing to make a circle . Op die manier krijg je een kommetje.... 7 rows of double crochet : this way you get a sort of bowl... Your jar should fit nicely in the crocheted bowl.... Now we will crochet the up going lines ... Haak 18 lossen. Crochet 18 chain. Crochet 60 chain and put a stitch marker between the 18 and the 60 chain. I used a piece of yarn as a stitch marker. This way you made 1 up going line and the first row of the upper circle .. Close the ring with a slip stitch in the marked stitch. Now you have one up going line of 18 stitches and a circle of 60 stitches. Crochet a row of 60 double crochet. Don't stick your hook ' in ' the chain from the row beneath but crochet ' around ' them. Close with a slip stitch. . Crochet- while going down again as shown on the picture- a row of 20 double crochet around the ' line ' of 18 chain. 7 double crochet at the top row of the bottom circle and go up again with 18 chain. Crochet the connecting slip stitch ( the stitch to connect the up going line at the upper circle ) at the bottom of the 6th double crochet. That way you attached the chain line onto the upper circle. Go down again by crocheting 20 double crochet around the 18 chain. 7 double crochet at the top row of the bottom circle. Now it's time for the upper circle : crochet 8 rows of 60 double crochet. To end : make a lace crocheted border : 1 double crochet , 2 chain, skip 1 double crochet from the row beneath, 1 double crochet, 2 chain. Repeat this again and again until you reach the beginning of the row = 1 double crochet + 2 hcain above one double crochet. Crochet the handle : make a row of chain. You choose the length of the handle ( but be sure to make it long enough to prevent fire ! ) . Attach the handle with a slip stitch at the other side of the circle. I made a handle by crocheting 3 rows of chain. Hide the loose ends, put the jar in the crochet jacket and done ! My measurements : the bottom = 5,5 cm and from bottom till top = 9 cm. Zo. Voila ! That's it ! Enjoy your sunny relaxed weekend ! : Make the handles long enough to prevent fire ! Use these jars hanging only in the garden and not inside ! Don't leave candles burning when no one is present and please keep it away from children and pets. Use material that's suitable for heat and don't hang them under something that easily catches fire in short : be wise in using this pattern because candles can be dangerous ! / I have an add- and sponsor free blog and I bought this yarn at full price at my own initiative and without any form of compensation for writing this blog post.
