Hello ! I'm back for another exciting and fun GUIDING YEAR! This is the beginning of my 17th year as a leader...plus I was a Guide for two years. That's 19 years membership with GGC! This year I am not leading both Brownies and Guides...just gonna do Guides and help out the Sparks and Brownies when needed. We have 14 Guides and 1 Pathfinder girl assistant...that is double membership from last year. We are busy selling cookies and getting ready for our kick off Campfire. I am still working on my craft room chaos {see post here..sorry it's not ready for the blog yet!} I do, however, have pdf files available for anyone interested in doing the Girl Guiding Lapbook{You In Guiding or World Guiding Badge lapbook}. See the original post here. Just leave a comment with your email address and I'll see if I have what you are looking for. I am always interested in seeing where my ideas are being used. Here are a few samples of what I have been working on to be used in the Lapbook. The Guide Promise Mini book The Four World Centres Cootie Catcher {or fortune teller} Looking forward to reading your comments!
Hello Kindred Spirits! It has been a couple of weeks since my last post! Today I want to share with you this Lapbook that we had made a couple of years ago. {You may have already viewed some of these pics on my website "Lee Ann's Girl Guide Notebook"}. We did the Anne of Green Gables Challenge with the Guides, Brownies, and Sparks over the course of three meetings; two meetings for learning about Anne and preparing for a recital...and the last meeting was a Recital. We had Service Learning students from St FX University come in to lead the Challenge as part of their course requirements. One of the challenge activites was to make some sort of scrapbook {a fitting activity since Lucy Maude Montgomery was a HUGE scrapbooker}. I thought this Lapbook would be an inexpensive and fun way to incorporate that element into the challenge. The colourful paper flowers came from the Dollarama store. The Anne colouring page came from Annetoon website...I can not seem to find the page where I got the writing though. This view shows the back cover of the Lapbook...a few colouring pages and a wordsearch that I had created especially for the Anne of Green Gables Lapbook were attached to the back. The inside view shows a Layered minibook for images related to Anne of Green Gables {images were found on Google search for Anne of Green Gables images}...images from Imagining Anne The Island Scrapbooks of L.M. Montgomery showing the popular "Puffed Sleeves" fashion...more Annetoon clipart...a folded double pocket...green cardstock to add support to the folder...two oval frames to add photos...stickers that I had in my stash from years ago...a homemade laminated Anne bookmark...a printout of the challenge patch...and gold photocorners that I had in my stash. This is the Invitation that the Brownies had made for the Recital. I found this idea in The Anne of Green Gables Christmas Treasury {I no longer have this book but I am almost certain that is where I found the idea} Inside view of the Invitation This is a craft idea that I had created...mini straw hat...ribbon...yarn braids...safety pin...white glue. So simple! After I had thought of this idea I later learned that similar magnets and life sized hats with braids were for sale at the Anne of Green Gables gift shops! Darn, I could have been rich with this idea LOL oh well LOL {I wish!}. This is the Challenge patch...100 YEARS OF ANNE...I do not see it for sale on the online GGC store so I guess they are no longer available. Does anyone out there know if this challenge patch is still available for GGC Units to purchase? This was a fun and entertaining challenge! A few of the girls came dressed in Anne costume which was a treat to see! We invited the parents to attend the Recital. The Guides were responsible for making a "Program" for the recital...which included a poem recitation , dancing, a skit, singing, lapbook display, food, and of course Raspberry Cordial {not the real raspberry cordial but a similar type punch...the real stuff is amazing! you can purchase it in PEI}. Cookie Owl had made several Victorian Sachets for the girls and a delicious cake! The Guides did an awesome rendition of a scene from the book. The Sparks shared a waltz and the Brownies shared the friendship dance. It was a pleasant evening for all! Have you made a camp blanket or poncho? I finally decided to make myself one! I was not sure if I wanted a blanket or poncho style. I only knew that I wanted it to last a lifetime. I had a small collection of badges and patches from my youth in Guiding, and those that I started to collect as my time as a leader in Guiding and Scouting. I can look at each crest or badge, even those from when I was a girl and remember when and where I was when I received it. At one of our camps last Spring, girls
Hello Blogland! Here is another activity to use with my Girl Guide Lapbook. It is a Lord Baden-Powell facts activity. The reason why I made it to look like a Robin is because LBP gave BP the nickname ROBIN. He would even sometimes draw a robin and use that as his signature. He was quite an accomplished artist. Did you know that he did the illustrations for his book Scouting For Boys? I have a pdf version of the "Facts About Lord Baden-Powell" activity for anyone who would like to use it. {I have two pdf versions...one is three pages...and a larger one for demonstration is 9 pages} The Facts are typed on eggs..then attached with a paper fastener {brad} to the Robin to resemble the bird's body. Pre punch the hole to prevent tearing. I chose 15 facts for this activity. You could choose less if you like or add more. Yes! I have way too much fun making these activities!
Here is the WAGGGS Friendship knot SWAPS we made. We used a glue stick to glue them to the paper and keep them together. I am including the Word document with the front & back template and instructions for tying the knot.

Hello friends! It's getting close to that time of year when Guiders are frantically searching for activities to use for a Thinking Day themed meeting. One idea that I like to do with my Girl Guide unit each year is to teach them about world guiding and the Four World Centres. I made this Four World Centres mini book along with posters of the Four World Centres ,and other info, to be used in a round-robin style meeting. I originally made it about 6 or 7 years ago and have made minor changes to the photos and content over the years. *Update* I have an updated edition of the World Centres mini book here which includes the fifth World Centre. If you would like to request this file please email The Girl Guides look at the posters and fill in the info in the mini book Left page... W A G G G S 145 member Countries 10 Million Members Right page... Country: England Pax Means: Peace Left page... Country: Switzerland Chalet Means: Shelter on the mountain Right page... Country: India Sangam Means: Coming Together Left page... Country: Mexico Cabana means: small cabin by a stream Right page... C W F F Have the girls print their name on the back. This book can be used in the World Guiding Lapbook or on it's own. It may be a little tricky to explain the folding directions but it really is quite simple once you make one. See the folding directions at the end of this post. This is what the mini book looks like before folding and cutting The coordinating posters pdf is also available upon request. I am happy to share Guiding activities with Sisters in Guiding! Mini book folding instructions

Hello! Welcome back to the final installment of the Girl Guide Collage Book. In Part One, I had shown how to put together a basic three-ringed cardboard book. In Part two, I had shown how to prepare the pages for the collage process. In Part Three, I had shown how I had created my collages. In this final Part Four, I will show my completed collage pages and cover. Be forewarned...this post is photo heavy! I coloured the cover with regular colouring pencils. I then sealed it with Mod Podge. The page above is part of a GGC cookie box so I did not think it needed to be collaged. On the above page, I had used a trefoil border that I had made in Microsoft Word. The page above is waiting to be collaged. I used washi tape on some of the collage pages. The above verse is printed on a piece of crumpled paper bag and I used a sharpie oil paint pen. The map in the background of the above collage is from an outdated phone book. I had made the World Logo Trefoil strip in Microsoft Word. I still have a handful of blank pages and a stack of images ready to be added to my book. As you can see, I could still add more to some of my pages but that will be for a rainy day. Whenever I complete more collage pages I will post them. Thank you all for being patient with this project. As I had mentioned before, most of these images were found on Pinterest and Flicker. I hope you enjoyed this project as much as I did and that it has inspired you to make a book of your own! Thank You for reading Owl & Toadstool ! Lee Ann

We made some new neckerchief slides at Roundtable last night. I love neckerchief slides! I think they are so fun to wear. Tonight we made some campfires because the core value this month is Health and Fitness. That means all things outdoors! Nothing better than a camp fire to make you think of the great outdoors. We lost our site where we stored our files, so we asked AkelasCouncil.blogspot.com to store our file for us. To print this file, please CLICK HERE to go to their blog to print out the PDF. Using the back side of the template (so you won't see the pen marks), trace it onto fun foam. Cut out the fire pieces, turn them over (so you don't see the pen marks), and hot glue them together. I found these small craft sticks at Hobby Lobby. They are shorter than regular popsicle sticks, and worked quite well. For the backs, I like to use 1/2" PVC pipe. It works great! Then, you can use whatever you want to decorate it with. I tried it with glitter glue, and sharpie markers, but I think I might like the plain ones the best. Good luck!
These are 1 pair of Japanese fan Charms I made using a yellow and red based Japanese origami paper. I really like the contrast of colors in this pair, the cheerful and warm tones give them a very lively look and the pattern is very artistic-oriental. These charms as seen here come with a jump ring at the top. The temporary wire twist is just for display. You can simply remove them and fan+jumpring can be used for any accessory. I folded the origami fan myself. The paper in its original state is Japanese Yuzen paper which is very hardy. To ensure that the charms are completely waterproof and retain their shape permanently they were coated with 3 layers of sealant gloss. They will not tear, nor will they melt in the rain ;) Even the little gold thread used to tie the base of the fan is treated with "fray stop" so they will remain intact all the time. As each is handmade, the pattern on each Charm varies slightly, as does the shape and exact size. Each charm is 4 cm (1.6 inch) in length and 3cm (1.1 inch) in height. These charms would look great as part on a pair of earrings, but of course you could have better ideas for them ;)
