I am often asked which element is the most important in interiors. And... I find this a really difficult question to answer. As I'm sure most of you would agree, any successful space is made up of many many components which need to work together as a cohesive (fully sick) unit. Just like a well rehearsed orchestra, or a symphony which requires a myriad of notes and changing rhythms to produce something which is worthwhile listening to, similar rules apply to architecture and interiors. I guess if I had to single out one of those elements, even though I just said that I find this virtually impossible... then, yes - you've guessed it - I would probably place ceilings on the top of the list (boom-boom, get it? It's a dad joke). I see ceilings as unifying elements within a space. The icing on the cake. They are almost always the most complex and the hardest to get right...

At the beating heart of the kasbah, La Sultana puts you just moments from the royal palaces, museums and souks of magical Marrakech. Inside, authentic Moroccan cuisine, rooms and suites with terraces, and an Argan-infused spa are standout features of this boutique retreat. This is a small, luxury hotel that knows how to spoil its guests, especially in the spa. From almonds to dates, prickly pears to Damask roses, the alchemist-like therapists make the most of Morocco’s natural treasures. There’s a Jacuzzi, two hammams and sauna here too – not to mention candlelit pools. This exotic ambiance carries through to the other spaces in and around La Sultana, especially the treasure box bedrooms. Their high vaulted ceilings, intricately carved woods, marble and copper echo the hotel’s rich heritage. Outdoors, rest on an orange-scented shady patio or the rooftop terrace and breathe in the captivating views. Then, go out in search of handicrafts in the souk – from rugs and spices to bright brass goods. For adventurous souls there’s horse riding or quad biking in the surrounding palm groves. When you get back to La Sultana, unwind with mint tea by the pool or mojitos on the lantern-lit terrace before dinner.
