Although I use a Bluetooth mouse any chance I get, there are times when I am mouse-less. I might be on the go, or on a plane, or just somewhere that doesn't have enough room for that helpful input device. Thankfully Chromebooks have a wonderful built-in touchpad! Chromebook touchpads are designed to replicate what a mouse can do, but they also go further with touch gestures that provide extra features for navigation and management. Although my first choice may always be for a mouse, I am happy to say that the Chromebook touchpad is a more than capable replacement to keep me productive and efficient no matter where I am. This can be especially helpful for our students who may often be using Chromebooks without a mouse. To help spread this helpful information I have created a full-color illustrated poster with 10 Chromebook touchpad tips. You can get the poster for free in multiple formats using the links below. I have also included details and animations for each of the touchpad gestures in this blog post. 📄 Get the Poster Use the links below to get your own copies of the poster. Happy Positive Thinking Thursday! What do you think of my new button? :) It is no secret on my 4th grade team that I am not a "math person." I get it, but it takes a little more brain power than other things I teach. I like to think that this puts me in touch with my students who struggle with or dislike math. I can understand what they don't understand because I've been there. (There's some positivity!) So in honor of all of this, I am going the funny route this week with my positive thinking and poking a little fun at math. Some of you may relate to these funnies as much as I did (I hope!). Source Source Source Source Seriously, I DO enjoy teaching math, but these were too good to pass up. Watch out grammar...I'm coming for you next! An InLinkz Link-up Wishing you an amazing day full of lots of laughter!

Too many classroom icebreakers require students to take big social risks with people they barely know. Or they don't really help students get to know each other. Or they are just plain cheesy.
Learning the levels of organization, that is! My students are working hard on our living systems unit. Our newest anchor chart is all about the organization of living things. I am a huge fan of anchor charts because it helps my students organize the content into bite sized pieces. In our living systems unit we discuss the levels of organization, plant and animal cells, classification and cell theory. I like to make an anchor chart for each of the different topics and hang them around the room as we complete them. Even more than that, I like the students to have their own copies of each anchor chart. So while I'm building a big one, they are making a smaller version at their desks. The levels of organization student version has all the boxes, but they're all mixed up. The students first figure out which boxes go together and then color those boxes to match. Once colored they are cut and pasted to the empty boxes on the final page. I love that my students end a unit with a set of anchor charts all their own. By the end of the year they have a nice science collection, highlighting the content they learned in a way that's easy to reference and, hopefully, easy to remember! The Let's Build: Levels of Organization Anchor Chart can be found here. The Let's Build: Levels of Organization student version can be found here.
