One of the best for fall color, award-winner Chinese Silver Grass 'Ghana' is a very attractive ornamental grass grown for its reddish flower plumes on display from late summer on. They delicately change to silvery white as they mature and provide good winter interest. They rise gracefully, well above the elegant foliage of narrow, arching, bright green leaves which turn a beautiful red-burgundy to golden yellow in fall. A very rewarding ornamental grass! Easily grown in a dense, upright clump up to 5-6 feet tall (150-180 cm). Drought tolerant, it is deer and rabbit resistant!

Personal work created intending to explore new workflows and improve my understanding of Unreal Engine (5). The videos are captured from a real-time build of the project. Throughout the project, I wanted to test the limitations of reusable assets by creating a handful of base assets to construct others out of. The landscape was created using Unreal's Landscape and Water tools, using Landscape Layers and Splines for the rivers. The small foliage was placed using Runtime Virtual Textures and Landscape Grass Types to place foliage on specific terrain layers. Many of the larger trees were placed by hand as they had a more significant impact on the overall composition. The tree, vine and bush leaves shader was made using a slight variation of Pontus Karlsson's wonderful 'quadmesh-to-billboard' shader method for "Fluffy Trees" - which is explained in detail here: https://youtu.be/iASMFba7GeI. Notable changes to the shader are the method of applying color, fixing some of the issues it has with Unreal's instanced foliage (billboard rotation), and adjusting scale based on the instanced tree's scale - which helped in fixing some of the 'holes' that appear, especially when using LODs.

Panicum is one of the most widely grown genera of ornamental grasses. In the early 1990s, Roy DiBlik from Northwind Perennial Farm of Wisconsin introduced Panicum virgatum ‘Northwind’. This cultivar was selected as a seedling with a different appearance than the other seedlings from seeds DiBlik had collected in Illinois. ‘Northwind’ differs from most previously […]
