It can be tempting to rush through the process of home-making. Sitting with something unfinished and undone, when we know what it could look or feel like, is difficult. Living in it, even more so. But homes crafted slowly over time, in accordance with the values and rhythms of the people who live within them don’t tend to date in the same way that spaces put together with haste do. For those for whom a slower approach to home-making feels meaningful, we have put together a list of tips that might be helpful in encouraging a slower, more considered approach to home-making.

When it comes to defining Mother Nature, we use all kinds of descriptions, a creator, a protector and a mother to all the things that are around us. However, when you look at wondrous things like shells, you realize that another role that Mother Nature plays is that of an artist. Actually, the thing is we should have realized this when we look at breathtaking vistas of nature and how much beauty is contained in these. In fact, when you come to really think about it, you ponder what is incidental art and discover more about it, you will acknowledge that Mother Nature does know art very well and is an expert it.

One of my favourite plants to dye with in the spring is the stinging nettle – it’s one of the plants I most look forward to. The leaves give me a soft grey-green hue at this time of year (maybe you get a slightly different colour?) – the colour just feels so fresh and “alive”...
Hey friends! I think I just finished one of my most favourite DIYs ever! Do you remember this Mother's Day post where I blogged about some DIY inspiration? One of the inspirations/gift ideas was a hanging himmeli planter and now a few months later I have my own DIY version. I really love how my planter turned out. It's quite small in scale and when I found the tiny fern at Home Depot I knew it would be perfect for it. I love how the more traditional fern looks in this very modern planter. You can find the how to at the bottom of the post. I hung my himmeli planter near the window in our dining room. I'm hoping it will be enough light for this little fern. As soon as the planter was hung, one little toddler went straight for it. He just dragged his Pikku Myy (from Moomins) chair over. At least it was just out of reach. :) You may also notice that I've taken down the airplane print and removed the wooden top to our floating sideboard. I was just trying to see what the sideboard would look like with a lighter top. We may have enough marble left over from our kitchen counters to be able to get a new top for it. We'll see, but for now I'm liking the lighter look and the chance to change up the art and styling. Here's the How To: DIY BRASS HIMMELI HANGING PLANTER Materials: brass tubing (I used two packages of 1/8" tubing purchased from Hobby Lobby) planter/small bowl pipe cutter (Tech Guy had the one pictured above that he used for plumbing work in our basement) brass wire How To: * Caution: When the brass tubing is cut it is very sharp. Use work gloves while cutting and sand the cut ends. Cut your brass tubing using the pipe cutter: Depending on the size and shape of your bowl you will need to cut: 3 small pieces (these will form the base on which the planter will sit. Try and cut them so that the resulting triangle is slightly smaller than the base of the planter), 6 medium sized pieces (these pieces should be length from the base of the planter plus a half inch) and 3 long pieces (these are the pieces that make the peak of the himmeli and should be cut so that they are long enough so that they pull the side pieces close to your planter when they are joined at the tip/hung). To make the planter: 1. Take a long piece of brass wire (the length of the 3 small and 6 medium pieces combined plus extra for tying) and thread it through the 3 small pieces. Join the two ends of wire together to form a triangle. 2. Take the long end of the wire and thread on 2 medium sized pieces. 3. Make another triangle shape by twisting the wire around the next triangle peak. 4. Repeat steps 2 & 3 to create a third triangle 5. Repat steps 2 & 3 to create a fourth triangle. Tie off your brass wire with the short piece that was left from the first triangle you made. Trim your wire and tuck any leftover ends into the tubes. 6. Cut a piece of wire that is a couple inches longer than your longest tube piece. Attach one of the long tube pieces to each of the peaks of the medium triangles 7. Twist the extra wire at the top of each long tube piece all together to form the point of the planter. Trim the extra wire and tuck in loose ends in the tubing. Create a loop of wire that goes through the top point of the planter that you can use to hang the planter at a desired height. 8. Plant a small plant in your bowl and insert into the himmeli hanger and hang securely (we inserted a large twist hook directly into a ceiling joist) Enjoy! I hope you enjoyed this project as much as I did! Once you have all the parts you need, it really comes together quickly. Happy Monday! sharing this at these parties

My blogs will not always be about this type of thing because being a mom is the best thing that has ever happened to me and I will also be writing about fun and happy times with my children. Mostly this blog is just about my life, sorta like an autobiography. which I hope to write one someday sooner than later!...
