When I asked the Sweat Community which questions you wanted me to answer, I got so many great questions! I answered the ones that came up the most in my FAQ blog. Many of you asked about my skincare routine, so I decided to expand on my approach to skincare as a personal trainer and give you some of my best skincare tips to use at the gym! My top tip for better skin: drink water! Like most women, my skincare routine changes fairly regularly, but the one thing that I always do is drink plenty of water! I can really see a difference in my skin depending on how much I’ve had to drink that day. I really believe that the quickest and easiest thing you can do to improve your skin is to stay hydrated. Tip 2: Always wear sunscreen We all know how damaging the sun can be for our skin — especially in Australia, where I live! Getting into the habit of wearing sunscreen or moisturiser with SPF can help to protect your skin from harmful UV exposure. Even when I’m not directly exposed to the sun, I like to make sure my skin is always protected with sunscreen. If you are going outside in the afternoon to do LISS and you haven’t put on sunscreen on since the morning, make sure to reapply before you go! A post shared by (@kayla_itsines) on Tip 3: A healthy outside starts inside I am a big believer that healthy skin starts from the inside! We really are what we eat, and what we put into our bodies can be a reflection of what we see on the outside. So, to keep your skin glowing I would recommend eating fresh, healthy foods. There are so many nutrient-rich foods like salmon, blueberries, and spinach that all hold amazing properties like antioxidants and vitamins, which can have a positive effect on our skin! Tip 4: Wash your face This is an essential part of my routine! I cleanse my face twice morning and night to remove any makeup, dirt or excess oil that could affect my skin. I usually follow cleansing with serum then moisturiser. In terms of the actual products that I use, these can change over time! I look for ingredients that will hydrate my skin like hyaluronic acid, and because my skin is a bit sensitive, I use a moisturiser specifically for sensitive skin. I often share these products in my Instagram stories. In general, I look for products that I can easily get at the local shops, can be applied in a five-minute routine and are effective on my skin. I also use the same routine morning and night, rather than doing something different because I like to keep it simple! Gym skincare tips As a personal trainer, the best skincare advice I can share is how to look after your skin when you are at the gym! It’s something that many women might not think of, but just a few simple steps can help prevent you from picking up any nasty germs that can affect your skin. 1. Do not touch your skin at the gym My biggest skincare tip as a personal trainer is DO NOT touch your face after handling equipment that everyone else has touched, without washing your hands first. Gym equipment is a breeding ground for bacteria, and not everyone wipes down the equipment when they are done! Taking precautions to make sure you don’t transfer bacteria to your face, eyes and skin can help prevent skin breakouts. 2. Bring hand sanitiser to the gym At the gym, the machine handles are usually not so clean — imagine the countless amounts of members who use them! Bring hand sanitiser to use after your workout and try not to touch the treadmill handles directly. 3. Bring your own mat The mats in the gym are used by other members who sweat through their workouts, so bring your own or a towel that you can put in between you and the mat! 4. Always bring a CLEAN towel Bring a clean towel to use each time you work out. Do not put a clean towel in your gym bag if it will be touching your dirty gym shoes! 6. Change your pillowcase You wash your face every day, but you might not wash your hair every day. When you work out your hair can get sweaty, and this can transfer on to your pillowcase — so wash your pillowcase regularly! I wash mine every second night. 7. Bring two towels You don’t want to use the same towel you put on gym equipment to wipe your face. Bring a second clean towel you can use to freshen up after your workout. I hope these skin tips help you! I have to stress, I am NOT a skincare expert at all, I am just a personal trainer! These tips are just from my own personal experience and what works for me. Staying hydrated and eating fresh, healthy foods will not only positively impact your skin, but can also help you to get better results from your workout routine. As you continue to track your fitness progress, you’ll see changes in how you feel too! I believe that when you feel more confident, eat healthy foods and get plenty of fresh air, this can have a positive effect on your overall wellbeing! I love hearing your health and fitness success stories, so keep sharing your progress with me!
