I have a beautiful wooden spoon, one of my favorite things in my kitchen. It was carved by hand and because of that, it was expensive. Totally worth it, in my view, but a once in a lifetime purchase for me. Every now and then I wish I could afford to give one as a gift but cost prohibits. So when I stumbled on an old article from Mother Earth News on how to carve your own wooden spoon, I was intrigued.

Set of 2 Love Spoons Handmade Hand Carved Fret Love Spoon | Traditional Gift Craft | Love gift | Romantic Love | Decorative wood spoon | Wedding Spoon SIZE: 10"(25cms) HEIGHT X 2-3"(5-8 cms) WIDE X 5/8"(2 cms) DEEP (Overall) ANY DESIGN, ANY SIZE AND ANY COLOUR The love spoon is a very old traditional handmade wood craft that dates back to the seventeenth century. Over generations, decorative woodcarvings were added to the spoon and it lost its original practical use and became a treasured decorative item to be hung on a wall. The lovespoon were mostly given to a beloved young woman by their suitor. It was important for the girl's father to see that the aspiring young man was capable of providing happiness for the family and woodworking. Sailors would often carve lovespoons during their long journeys, which is why anchors would often be incorporated into the carvings. Certain lovespoon symbols came to have their specific meanings: a horseshoe for luck, a cross for faith, bells for marriage, hearts for love, a wheel supporting a loved one and a lock for security, among others. Caged balls indicated the number of children hoped for. Other difficult carvings, such as chains, were as much a demonstration of the carver's skill as a great symbolic meaning. We make them by our hands by very skilled master carvers and polish with natural Linseed oil mostly dark or light depending on the personalization by the customer. P.S.: Please contact us before ordering if you need to order in quantity, we have great discounts for you.
