Good Morning Friends & Folk ~ and a happy Sunday to us all.... ~ our day will be a rainy one, with grey clouds and a bit of a chill in the damp air. and on to Slow Stitching! we all {mostly} know the concept of slow stitching... methodical, mindful {or not} stitches made in small areas at a time using recycled, old, new, used, worn fabrics and threads of all-sorts. ~ now this is something that excites me LOL ~ I do follow a few Instagram, Pinterest & Youtube accounts for slow stitching, and I'll share them with you at the end of this posting, if you're so-inclined. here are a few photos that I've borrowed from Pinterest, showing some of my favorite projects that have been posted there: and now for a few snaps of what I'll be working on today using Slow Stitch... all I need to do is add thread! ~ I know it's not for everyone... and to some it looks unfinished, done by untrained hands, 'too' primitive or even messy. but to me, it is beautiful. poignant. intriguing... easy but challenging and frees oneself from the constraints of perfection-ism. nothing wrong with frayed edges and loose threads. faded colors and age-spots and stains are fine. wrinkles are perfect and show character. each stitch taken should be mindful, carefully placed and thought upon. stitch your feelings into your cloth and relax a while. does Slow Stitching have to be pretty? nope. is it supposed to make sense? only to you. is there a right or wrong way to do it? I don't think so, you do you. so give it a try. gather your supplies: a sewing basket or bag to keep your things in {or better yet, MAKE a bag!} sharp needle, blunt tipped needle, sharp scissors, chalk, pencil, frixion pen {heat erasable} lots of threads and lots of fabric scraps. and don't forget to include your imagination...... here are the links promised and I do hope you visit them: https://deep-rooted-healing.com/art-projects/buried-books https://www.jessiechorley.com/ https://www.instagram.com/petalplum/ https://www.instagram.com/maycontainpaper/ https://www.instagram.com/k3n.clothtales/ Blessings from the Farm ~ Lori

Well, gentle readers.. I took a few photos of the pieces that I am still working on for my Slow Stitch String Book Black Bean dyed cotton with bleached and over dyed sari silk. which we will make on the next video.. Tea dyed and stitched cotton textile one more video and then we are taking our summer vacation.. Tea dyed Khadi paper stitched with mono printed fabric We had planned a trip to visit family to celebrate a birthday, but that was cancelled.. due to Covid.. so very much has changed.. but stitching hasn't changed.. I can still rely on it for it's curative repairs.. Caterina Giglio, mixed media, slow stitching. stitching, centers me.. as the needle marries paper and fabrics.. creating a path all its own. moving gently on .. with no concern of where that pathway leads.. the piece, or me.. I loose my attachments and just focus on this present moment.. my breath, a sip of tea.. and I make space for the the wonky and wabi sabi.. in myself and in my work. A little string book will be perfect for imperfect pages and will allow them to be worked on time and time again.. See you next week my dear readers.. be well and as always, thank you.. Ciao, Ciao!

28th March 2021 Just a quick up-date.... ....the centre bookmark is for my gorgeous granddaughter who is now enjoying chapter books being read to her, we have started with 'The Twits' which she is really enjoying. This was an off-cut from a postcard I made and as she loves the seaside decided to make her a bookmark with her name embroidered on the back. The other two are made from an experiment using my hand dyed fabrics and wavy line weaving, thought they would make fundraising gifts later in the year. This is a slow stitched piece which has taken a while to do! Thought I might mount it on a canvas frame when shops open again. The background is some of my indigo dyed calico and used the circular pattern and extended with stitch circles. Close ups, some of my favourite simple stitches.... ....used washers to fill small spaces. I am now slow stitching some wool I eco dyed with eucalyptus leaves but need more variety of colours in my embroidery threads so again am waiting for the shops to open! I have tried ordering on line but the colours are never what I was expecting. I miss the craft shows for hand dyed threads.
