Nobody likes acne. I think it's safe to say we have all had a breakout or two –––– or a lot more than two. It's something that I personally struggled with in high school and periodically experience today. With my fair skin, acne has left scars that seem so amplified against my tone. I have been insecure for years about them, covering them up and using quick fixes. What I always wanted was something that would really help relieve my skin of its blemishes and prevent new ones from appearing. My redhead skin is sensitive so I searched high and low for something

You can read more about my $2 Portrait Project here. I was walking from downtown San Francisco to the Mission earlier today when I ran into Robert on 6th Street near Jessie St. Robert immediately saw me coming with my camera and posed for me as our eyes met. After that he asked me if I could help him out with $1 by buying a Street Sheet newspaper. I told Robert that I didn't need a newspaper but told him about my $2 portrait project and he eagerly accepted and said ok, I can do that. Robert's been in San Francisco for about 8 years. Prior to San Francisco he lived in New York City where he is from. I asked Robert if he had any kids and he told me no. He told me that he was a life long confirmed bachelor never having had a wife or kids. Robert asked me about the hotel signs that I'd been shooting and I explained to him that I collected pictures of signs. He asked me why and I told him I didn't know, that it was mostly likely just an obsession sort of thing as anything. Oh I get that he said, the neon light just sucks you in doesn't it. Robert told me that about 5 months ago he had his photo taken on the street by another photographer, not a U.S. photographer but a foreign photographer. He said the guy had him sign a paper and he never thought much of it until a check for $1,200 showed up in the mail. Robert told me that I should sell his photo as well and that we'd split the money 50/50. I told Robert that this sounded like a pretty good deal to me and that I'd look him up if I sold it. "Now there's no saying 'if,'" Robert said back to me. You have to use the power of positive thinking. "If, means that you aren't going to sell it," he told me. You have to know that you are going to sell it. You have to expect to he told me. I asked Robert if he wanted to see his photo on the LCD and he said he did. Immediately after seeing Robert smiled and said, oh, that's good, that's real good. That's a real sexy look right there. Look at that, it looks really good with a brand new haircut. You can definitely sell that photo for a lot of money. You and me we're going to make a lot of money with this photo he said. I told Robert that I wouldn't be able to sell his photo without a model release and he said, oh no problem. With that he gave me his room number at the Hotel where he is living there on 6th Street. $600 a month for rent he added, nothing left after that. I told Robert that I'd get a model release and come by his place in the next week or so so that he could sign it. I told him that I'd leave it for him there if he wasn't there. He really liked this. Robert asked to see the photo again and was very pleased with it, saying over and over again, oh yes, definitely, that is a very sexy look. National Geographic is going to want to buy this one he said. This is exactly the type of photo that they're looking for. If you show this photo to National Geographic they will definitely buy it he said. It's a very sexy photo. I was happy that Robert was so pleased with his photograph and told him that I'd be by next week sometime with a print for him as well as a model release and that we'd split the money not "if" but "when" we sold the photograph. Robert smiled and told me that I was catching on. Positive thinking he reminded me. With that Robert and I started to go our separate ways. Don't forget about me he reminded me. I won't I told him. I'm serious he said, don't forget about me. We're going to make a lot of money with that photograph. I won't forget about you Robert I promised him. I'll see you next week Pal. Ok, he said, I'll be here, but don't forget about me. By the way, if you're from National Geographic and reading this drop me a line if you're interested in this photo, you'd make Robert's day.
