The other day D. LeRoy put up a photo of the front of this shop, so I thought I'd put one up from the inside. This shop is dedicated to gardens and herbs. I've heard that the woman who owns it has been used as a consultant on movies. It's a small store with narrow hallways and little rooms. I caught myself thinking the very stereotypical "the poor husbands should not be required to come in here." But right when I was busy pigeonholing genders a man said to his wife, "this store has so much to look at...." And then something else which was really nice and either he is Mr. Placater Extraordinaire or I need to stop with the overgeneralizations. I came here to procure some top shelf cat nip for my cat. This place has the strongest nip a cat could get. My cat could sense it in the paper bag. He's been glassy-eyed and slightly drooly most of the night.

Built and owned by the more affluent members of society and perceived as a status symbol, the conservatory derives its name from the Italian term “conservato”, meaning stored or preserved, and Latin “ory”, meaning a place for. The conservatory would appear to have its origins as far back as the days of the Roman Empire when they created structures capable of allowing light in while retaining heat via sheets of mica instead of glass which was not available at the time. Conservatories became more popular in the late 19th century with the traditional conservatory being a large greenhouse used for growing tender and rare plants. Wealthy citizens erected conservatories on their estates and created glass garden rooms in their urban mansions. Many hired botanists to stock their conservatories with tropical plants from around the world. This became a way to cultivate tropical fruits (hence the term "orangery") as orange and lemon trees were brought back during the great Age of Exploration. These garden rooms evolved into elegant spaces in which patrons might enjoy the experience of truly connecting with nature. Regardless if you call it a conservatory or garden room, a beautiful structure that creates a bridge between outdoors and inside will let you have fun relaxing in your own private garden. White Sage has been used for many years to banish unwanted spirits and clear negative energies. The Holy and Sacred Herb is known for its healing powers. Traditionally used as a smudge or incense for protection and purification. It has a long history of use as an altar offering and has been referred to as "Portable Altar." Uplifting scent. Burn it to nurture and protect that which is ancient, sacred and wild within you. Use it when you need encouragement or courage. Yerba Santa - Holy Herb. Traditionally used as a smudge or incense for protection and setting boundaries, Yerba Santa has also been used for love, purification, growth, empowerment and beauty, and the release of emotional pain stored in the heart chakra. Uplifting scent. Blue Sage also known as “Grandmother Sage” is a purifying herb with broad medicinal and magical applications. Blue Sage is widely used for cleansing and purification purposes, it provides spiritual strength and sometimes it is also used during exorcism rituals as well to remove the malevolent spirits. Blue Sage is a hardy bush found in the deserts of the Southwest. It’s named for its abundant blue flowers, but the leaves also have a blue-ish cast. It has thin leaves and a fragrance that is both herbaceous and floral, similar to Lavender. A close relative of White Sage, Blue Sage is also good for healing and cleansing rituals. Its soothing, relaxing smell can be used to aid meditation, or burned simply for enjoyment. It’s not as pungent as White Sage, and is more agreeable to some folks who find the strong, bracing scent of White Sage overpowering. The cedar tree has been revered for its spiritual significance for thousands of years. Its wood was used for the doors of sacred temples and burned in cleansing ceremonies for purification. Cedar has a long history of use in indigenous sweat lodge ceremonies and the tree was thought to house important gods and to be an entrance to higher spiritual realms. Cedar is first and foremost a medicine of protection. It is often used to cleanse a home when first moving in, inviting unwanted spirits to leave and protecting a person, place or object from unwanted influences. Cedar is often used in the sweat lodge ceremony. A few pinches are thrown on the red-hot rocks, immediately sparking into a yellow glow and releasing their aroma. The smoke of burning cedar is said to attract the good spirits and eliminate negative energies. The cedar is also one of the four sacred plants of the indigenous American Medicine Wheel and represents the Southern direction. The other plants contained in the Medicine Wheel are: White Sage representing the West, Sweetgrass representing the North, and Tobacco representing the East. The smoke of sweetgrass produces a sweet and light fragrance that is excellent for cleansing sacred spaces. Sweetgrass is believed to invite the good spirits and sweet dispositions. It is often burned at the beginning of a prayer or ceremony to attract positive energies. Like sage, cedar, and juniper, sweetgrass is used to purify the home. For Indigenous peoples in North America, sweetgrass is revered as a sacred medicine. Many see it as a cultural keystones species, reflecting a group’s cultural identity and embodying their values and beliefs. Braids of sweetgrass have been burned during ceremonies for generations by Northern American Indians. The smoke of burning sweetgrass will purify and cleanse places, objects and people. The three strands of the braid represent the mind, body and spirit, all working together in unity. Sweetgrass is still considered a sacred plant by many native tribes of North America and is traditionally used as incense in many sacred ceremonies, purifications processes, healing rituals, peace ceremonies, and initiations. It is said that the sweet smelling smoke cleanses the spirit and brings sacred messages to the higher planes of existence. ***You will receive ONE item picked at random.
