Learning about animals in winter is such a fun topic of study. This hibernation preschool pack is filled with hands-on math, literacy, and writing centers. Hibernation Preschool Theme Hibernation Subitizing- Match each chipmunk number card to the correct numbered tree. Bear Patterns- Grab your bear counters and build and extend each pattern. Bear Counting- Count and cover each color of dot. Write the the total number with dry erase marker. Fine Motor Groundhog Counting- Attach a pipe cleaner to each groundhog. Count and string beads onto the pipe cleaner. Cave Sticky Wall- I used contact paper (sticky side out) and my little guy matched our foam letters to the letters I wrote on the cave. Bat Letter Match- Say the letter on the bat wing. Write (or place a letter tile) on the other bat wing. Groundhog Count and Trace- Count pom poms onto the ten frame, then trace each number. Bear Cave Flip and Cover- Flip over a bear card, identify the number, cover the number on the cave. Hibernation Tracing Lines- Use a dry erase marker to trace each line. Bear Cave Bean Bag Throw- My boys love any gross motor game, so this was a lot of fun. He would throw a bean bag, and then say the letter and sound it landed on. This is easily adaptable for sight words, numbers, shapes, or colors! Frogs in the Mud- We used brown paper shred as the base and threw in the alphabet cards. Pick a card, say the letter, and then trace the letter on the recording page. Feed the Groundhog- Cut a hole in the mouth of the groundhog. Attach the groundhog to a box. Feed the groundhog each letter. Polar Bear Sounds- Match each letter to that picture with that beginning sound. Hibernation Writing Tray- Trace each letter in a writing tray of salt or coffee grounds. Bear Shape Matching- Match each shape bear to the same shape cave. Hibernation Sensory Bin- Sensory bins are always a lot of fun for my kids. We used beans as the base, and threw in wooden tree blocks, pine cones, and our play animals.
