Not sure if this recreation is accurate but I worked from the picture in the real estate news clipping below from the Detroit Free Press: (Feb 28, 1915) which states the following: "MISS CATHERINE ASH IS BUYER OF CENTRALLY LOCATED HOUSE. 83 Alfred Street Harry S. Hodge has sold the three story, solid brick, modern home and lot 41x167 feet, at 83 Alfred Street, to Miss Katherine Ash, who takes the property as an investment. The house has ten rooms and bath and is connected with Central heating system. The price is withheld. Value of the place is estimated at $12,000. The sale is the fifth made on the same street by Barry & Dietz within a few months." Interesting to note the number of sales of homes on Alfred Street in such a short period of time. Apparently this was the era when many of the mansions of Brush Park were transitioning from being the family estates of the wealthy to being real estate investments as rooming houses for the burgeoning population of a dynamic city. That didn't end well though. The original in the Burton Collection: quod.lib.umich.edu/d/dpa1ic/x-dpa2771/DPA2771.TIF?from=in...

“It is a defect of God’s humor that he directs our hearts everywhere but to those who have a right to them.”—Tom Stoppard, Arcadia In a large country house in Derbyshire in April 1809 sits Lady Thomasina Coverly, aged thirteen, and her tutor, Septimus Hodge. Through the window may be seen some of the “five hundred acres inclusive of lake” where Capability Brown’s idealized landscape is about to give way to the Gothic style: “everything but vampires,” as the garden historian Hannah Jarvis remarks to Bernard Nightingale when they stand in the same room 180 years later. Bernard has arrived to uncover the scandal which is said to have taken place when Lord Byron stayed at Sidley Park. Tom Stoppard’s masterful play takes us back and forth between the centuries and explores the nature of truth and time, the difference between the Classical and the Romantic temperament, and the disruptive influence of sex on our orbits in life—“the attraction,” as Hannah says, “which Newton left out.” Product DetailsISBN-13: 9780802126993 Media Type: Paperback Publisher: Grove/Atlantic - Inc. Comfy and cosy underground house in the Somerset countryside that's built into the land and comes with its own private hot tub.
