The 2021 Gingerbread dollhouse is done! This year I had a request from Darby and Francesca for a little bakery/candy shop. Great idea girls! This was a fun project. The end product is so whimsical and full of joy. It's just an awesome dollhouse to make. This is a 1/12 scale dollhouse. It measures about 15 1/4" tall x 10 1/8" across the front x 11 1/4" deep before adding the "icing." All the little candy came from Hobby Lobby. Some was Christmas tree ornaments. Some come from the jewelry department. I usually start collecting candy early on in August. The icing is made with light weight spackling paste straight from the hardware store. It's piped on with disposable pastry bags and pastry tips. Apply the candy into the spackling paste while it's still wet and let dry completely overnight. I also us candy moles for trim. You can use anything to fill those including sparkle, caulk, hot glue, silicone, resin…. anything you are comfortable using will work. To add a little more sparkle and whimsy we use this plastic fake snow called Buffalo Snow. You can also use glitter. This little wooden display cabinet case is from Miniatures.com. I had this feeling from the beginning telling me not to tempt it myself. Sometimes you just have to listen to that little voice. I am really happy with this piece. It's filled with a variety of cakes and baked goods. The cupboard is a piece from Hobby Lobby. I liked the style and I knew it would be perfect behind the counter. I painted it green and also with other little Christmas details. That's the Bakery! I hope you enjoyed following along. And that you will try one of these gingerbread dollhouses too. They are really a great project at Christmas time. Thank you again Darby and Francesca. I hope you will love your new dollhouse! Merry Christmas!

tiny things for miniature enthusiasts, every day.
First off, thanks for all the vintage Christmas love from my Christmas decor post! I know I teased you a bit with a glimpse of the dollhouse I decorated, so I won't keep you in suspense any longer! Here it is! You guys are probably sick of hearing about this dollhouse, but it's been fun helping it realize its full potential! When I purchased the house, it seemed as though it may have been used as some sort of Christmas display, because there were Christmas lights rigged around it (the regular sized ones), and a chimney attached that was not original to the house. So this has stuck in my head, and I decided to go with it! We have this odd archway in our front room that has always been a difficult decorating challenge. A couple years ago, Jason built the shelves you see. It's in the same room as the Christmas tree, so here is what I did this year! I bought several of those light-up necklaces with mini Christmas bulbs, and rigged them around the house and on a couple trees. They flash at different times, so it was difficult to get a photo with them all lit, but you get the idea. I used some quilt batting for snow on the ground and roof, and attached a wreath and "Merry Christmas" (from vintage ornaments) to the front. (Unfortunately, we're missing a door- will have to find one soon!) I already had the Santa, reindeer, and sleigh from my vintage Christmas collection. They are the perfect scale! The bottlebrush trees were also in my Christmas stash. It's such a fun little display. Frankly, I think I enjoy it more than anyone else in the house, but I just love it! I hope you did, too!! And yes, we really do have snow falling inside our house- don't you see it in all the photos? No, I just went a little crazy with the "snow" filter in Picnik!
The elves were busy this holiday season and I'm sharing how they created the dreamiest Dollhouse Christmas ever!
It has been such fun to watch the exterior evolve. Each layer getting closer to the sweet vision I imagined. When It was time to click the lights on, I held my breath. Then, seeing each one glowing, I squealed with delight! I made the post and porch lights by drilling out clear resin gumdrops for globes and candy cane pieces for poles. The little peppermints made perfect spacers! For the porch posts, I drilled holes into candy canes and gum drops bases, then used resin to anchor the pins to make them sturdy. I couldn't resist making a cookie cutter wind chime for the front porch! The chimney is removable for access in case of wiring issues. Let's hope I never have to remove it though. The other side was calling for some Tudor style frosting covered timbers. I just love how the interior lights shine through the candy windows! As usual, when viewing the photos I see opportunities to add more things. I recon I will, but the main focus will be to get the bedroom finished up in time for Christmas. Wishing each and every one of you a wonderful Thanksgiving, full of everything to be thankful for! xo xo, Jodi

This year we decided to scale down our decorating for the holidays. The tree was all Hallmark and teddy bears were everywhere. The thrid major piece of what we did put up or out were a number of miniature dollhouses decorated especially for the holidays. All of them are from my wife - known on Flickr as "dont make a scene."

There is no hope for me ~ I am a confessed miniaholic. I don't really care to be cured. I am happy to live with this burden ;-) If there is an empty bookshelf hanging around ~ there is a reason to decorate with minis. This early American shelf was once stained in a dark wood tone. It was charming, but of course I grabbed a can of spray paint and the rest is history. It's turned into a mini townhouse of sorts, an Upstairs Downstairs of the mini world. Here it is all decorated for Christmas. Stockings, a wreath and a Christmas tree. Cookies are in the oven. Mmm Mmm good! There is a mini Bentley, of course. A house is not a home without a sweet dog. There is a cozy spot for an afternoon tea party too. I will warn you though ~ the longer you stay, the greater the chance that you will become a miniaholic too! However, it's Christmas, so lets indulge ourselves. Big Texas Hugs, Susan and Bentley
