I wanted to post last week, but forgot all about it! At the beginning of the year in Alaina's 1st grade class, her teacher handed out journals to each of the students. I believe that they had an allotted time each day to quietly write on their journals. It was so cute skimming through Alaina's journal at the end of her school year. She wrote about how much she loves her little brother, that she wants to be an artist when she grows up because "I'm really good at it," and about how much she and her dad love bacon..... the inner workings of a 6 year are quite humorous. When Alaina asked me to make her a summer journal that she could take along with her on our trip, I starting thinking of an idea for what could be used to create the front and back cover of the journal. (It would have been easier to just use a compisition notebook but I really wanted something on a smaller scale. Pocket size or just a little larger.) I scoured my craft room looking for the right size chipboard to use as covers but didn't really find anything terribly useful...... until I saw a box of greeting cards! A greeting card would make a perfect little journal! They're already folded and cute cards are readily available everywhere, but it's especially sweet if you can reuse a pretty card that was given to you. (Do you keep cards that you received? I always keep the pretty cards I receive for special occasions, I figure eventually I'll use them for something useful. To start I trimmed down to size a small stack of graph paper and folded the sheets in the middle. Just use a couple of staples to hold the paper inside the card. and no summer journal would be complete without a sheet of stickers. I used to be a sticker queen when I was little and I've obviously passed on the love to Alaina. (Chase too if you noticed his 4th of July flag below!) There is my easy-peasy summer journal idea! Other add on ideas could be a sheet of printed titles, maybe add a roll of cute washi tape to hold paper notes, and a sheet or 2 of letter stickers. Hope you are able to make a few with you little ones and record those special summer memories!
I've been a floral designer since Y2K specializing in weddings and themed parties but Covid hit and out business couldn't survive years without events. I started creating unique paintings, wreaths and garlands with beloved characters and teams. It's been a great way to utilize everything I learned as a florist and keep my creative flame alive.

Shop Our Full Line Here: With 21 different designs, you are sure to find one you LOVE! Watch as Mary Corrado from Mary Corrado Interiors shows you how she added a touch of elegance to her antiqued mirror with our new Molds! Step One Start By Mixing Resin Part A With Resin Part B And Mix For Three Minutes. (If you want your Resin to be flexible only add half the Hardener instead of a 1:1 ratio). Once Three Minutes Is Up, Pour Mixture Into Molds. Step Two Let Dry Overnight. Step Three Take Super Glue And Glue Decorative Pieces Onto Piece. Let Dry Before Proceeding. Step Four Clean Entire Piece With Clean Slate. Step Five Paint A Base Coat With One Step Paint Color Of Your Choice And Let Dry. Step Six Add One Coat Of Cracked Gesso On Top And Let Dry Step Seven Choose Two Colors Of Milk Paint And Mix Each Color With Water And Stir Until Paste-Like Consistency. Step Eight Paint Onto Piece Over The Cracked Gesso (Mary used a lighter color on the Decorative Mold and a darker color on the rest of the piece) Step Nine Once Dry, Cover Piece With Antiquing Glaze. (Mary used a sponge for this) Step Ten Once Dry, Apply Light Antiquing Wax After Offloading Onto Cardboard. Let Come To Tack. Step Eleven With A Very Light Hand, Repeat Step Ten But With Dark Wax. Just Hit The Edges And Corners. Let Come To Tack. Step Twelve Finally, Use Dust of Ages And Apply Over Entire Piece. Our silicone molds have a natural release and do not stick. Simply pour in your mixture of 2 parts resin with 1 part hardener, and mix well for 3 minutes. Pour into the mold and allow to dry overnight. Pop out your design and apply with super glue to your frame, furniture, or decorative object. The detail on our molds will be quite exquisite due to the depth in each. You can use these molds over and over again. Using the Resin recipe with only half the hardener will allow your designs to be flexible and be placed beautifully over curved surfaces. If you prefer using air dry clay in lieu of resin, you will notice some shrinkage and cracking. Be aware that air dry clay will not give you the detail that you can get with Resin. Amy loves using Decorative Molds for baking: adding detail to cookies, cakes, etc. We suggest keeping your food molds separate from ones that you prefer to use for painting and creating.

My niece and I spent a relaxing Sunday afternoon making embellishments for cards. We used leftover bits and pieces from my scrap bins. We also tried a different technique -- emboss resist! (You can find a tutorial for that here.) Supplies and Tools: KRAFT cardstock, Tattered Florals Die (Tim Holtz), Quilling Tool, Puzzle Die (Sizzix), Paper Crimper (Fiskars), Script Stamp, Versamark, Clear Embossing Powder, Assorted Dye Inks, Circle punch, Square Punch, Twine, Pearls, Blossom Nestabilities, Leaf Punch (Martha Stewart), Paperwork Greetings (Inkadinkado) This post linked to: Kraft Journal - What's on your work table (I usually keep my desk clean with nothing but my lamp, clock, and a bin of "tools" on it [see photo below] - BUT today these embellishments were sitting on it waiting to be photographed, blogged about, and put away)
