"Peace -- that was the other name for home." ~Kathleen Norris I can't believe that it is November (I know I say that every month.)! A part of me is shocked that time is passing so quickly and the other part of me just wishes it was CHRISTMAS! It's coming though and I love the days leading up to it. I will just have to be patient. I have been so busy lately - thankyou to the lovely people who have been ordering commissions lately! What a wonderful, happy kind of busy! This weekend I have balanced between art"work" and family time and I have loved every minute of it. I haven't had a lot of extra minutes to take pictures this week because there has been so much happening but I did manage to snap these few and play with them late one evening. -------->What I love about my home: the softness of everything, the flowers, the ivory walls, the way everywhere you look there is something pretty, the ambience, the coziness, and all of the old-fashioned things. P.S. I included a my favorite corner of one of my recent commissions at the end. I love the curly haired girl!
What do you think of when you hear shabby chic? Distress vintage finds, salvaged and whitewash wood, pops of pastel, lace and feminine florals, shabby chic is often also referred to as country chic or vintage chic. The basic thing about this decor is upcycled or antiqued furniture, which means you can find old pieces at a low cost, or buy modern furniture at a cheaper price and give it a shabby makeover. Shabby chic style can be applied throughout your home.

I'm having trouble remembering what day it is. And then when I do I realise that this is the only time of the year that it really doesn't matter! I'm wrapped up in that warm, cosy, fuggy sort of feeling that Christmas week brings, a feeling of being detached from the real world for a while, as if the clocks have all stopped. Days have been filled with lounging around in jim jams, long baths, good reads, and rather too much refereeing for my liking (one small house + two over excited boys = war!) But there have also been quiet moments, long lie-ins, time for slow cooking and some joyful evenings spent in Australia, which in our cricket loving household has definitely made a certain someone's Christmas. Family have visited, the house has been lit by candle light and laughter while they feasted and made dinosaur balloons with us (as you do). Now we're looking forward to welcoming in the New Year at home with good friends and more laughter. New games and books are being enjoyed. Friends and loved ones have been very generous and I have plenty of inspiration for the New Year ahead. Today the outdoors called, so we wrapped up warm and headed here again, through the thawing ice and snow and peasouper fog for a bit of bracing fresh air. Just what we needed to wake us up again and now we're back in the warm, turkey curry on the hob and an evening of Upstairs Downstairs ahead. Bliss. (My present from Woody, from the wonderful Girl's Own Store) Hope your Christmas is going slowly and pleasantly too! In answer to a couple of questions: Snowflakes - sadly I am a complete non-crocheter (wrong genes I think) so I can't share the pattern. I boughtmine last year for a couple of pounds on ebay and then came over from America. Hope that helps and thanks for all the lovely comments. Love Sxxx
Terrific vintage crochet pillow measures 16 x 16" not including the end tassels. The pink flowers have a raised texture and the overall look is sweet as can be! The cover does not come off and the pillow filling feels like a formed foam that is fairly firm. In terrific vintage condition with no flaws to note. There are some very light pilling/fuzzy yarn threads here & there, but nothing major. Otherwise it's very clean and looks super! Coordinates well with a variety of decorating styles including vintage, mid century, shabby chic, boho & eclectic styles. Adds a retro touch wherever you choose to use it!
Old is new again!! We've been saying this for years now, but vintage is coming back, and it's here to stay. The term

The English are remarkably good at creating lovely cottage interiors and exteriors. The one thing both these spaces have in common is flowers. Who doesn't love an English garden? The English cottage interior follows suit and brings that English garden inside through the use of pretty floral chintz fabrics. Add in a touch of lace, some needlepoint, framed art hung on the walls, a surplus of books, your cherished collectibles, and some wonderful English antiques and you will have succeeded in creating that cozy, layered, relaxed and feminine English cottage interior. Floral chintz has always been the go to fabric for the English cottage interior and with it's recent rise once again in popularity, now is a particularly good time to design that English cottage look you have always dreamed about. Don't mistake the look for Granny or Shabby Chic, as authentic English interiors are not loaded down with ruffles, lace, and doilies. Yes, you can use a bit here and there, but restrain, restrain, restrain, from "going Granny". I hope the pictures I have collected will help you if this very distinctive look is what you are after. Be sure to incorporate chintz to bring your English cottage interior into bloom! via Pinterest Chintz is a glazing that is applied, usually to a floral cotton textile, that gives it a crisp texture and a muted shine. This wonderful fabric can be used formally or dressed down for a casual English cottage appearance. myfairylily.tumblr.com You can create the English cottage look by using a saturation of chintz......or simplify the look with small touches of floral chintz in the form of pillows, lampshades, footstools.....you get the picture. Chintz works well with ticking and other stripes, plaids, toile, and paisley so be sure and use an interesting mix. posy.typepad.com Here a bit of chintz at the cottage window, some pretty antique china, and of course a bouquet of flowers guarantees a soft feminine vignette. madeliefje-madelief.blogspot.com dailymail.co.uk A comfy floral chintz upholstered side chair is almost a requirement for the English cottage interior. google.com yorkshirelife.co.uk Of course a chintz covered sofa is equally as pretty. One thing I love about the English cottage look is it's livability. It's not about a decorating style as much as it is a life style. architecturaldigest.com Genteel clutter and colorful rooms with floral chintz is what you are looking for. Don't forget to treasure hunt for a pretty tea set. You can't have the English cottage look without one! theenglishhome.co.uk I prefer touches of chintz as opposed to saturation. However, the English cottage room can go either way. Look for colorful handmade rugs! This is a great color for walls in this type of interior. Nicky Haslam countrylife.co.uk bhg.com The quintessential element of any pretty English cottage room is a floral print. Here you can see a variety of ways to bring florals to your space. periodliving.co.uk The English cottage is usually a home brimming with personality, charm, and lots of chintz! Sister Parish style via architecturaldigest.com You might choose to let your walls be the bearers of chintz by using a pretty floral wallpaper. English cottage interiors wear paper well. decordesignreview.tumblr.com instagram.com decorisme.co via Pinterest Floral chintz pillows........ WollWorks.com and handmade needlepoint pillows are the perfect partnership for an English cottage interior. I was fortunate that my mother taught me to needlepoint so I can make my own. You can find them at antique malls, flea markets, estate sales, or on Ebay. They are out there and can be found at good prices. via Pinterest sharonscrapbook.blogspot.com I love this English cottage interior. Chintz floral fabric at the window and on the pillows livens things up a bit. Florals don't have to be vivid to be pretty as this room points out. preppyemptynester.blogspot.com The homeowner of this English cottage interior has used floral chintz slipcovers. If you are crafty, make some for your chairs to help you with the cottage look. Also decorating with canine art lends to the English feel of a room. touristbee.com Rose Cumming Chintz saturation can be lovely as it creates a wonderful seamless effect. But it has to be done well or it can really go south on you. Even though I normally am not crazy about all over chintz, this space is gorgeous and would make a great English or French cottage bedroom. Anthony Baratta Chintz chair and sofa in an English cottage interior that incorporates an equestrian theme.....typically British!! A lovely chintz covered window in British textile designer Louise Townsend's cottage home. Roger Banks-Pye of Colefax & Fowler Chintz at the window and many other wonderful patterns throughout give this English cottage interior it's warmth and charming appeal. You want many patterns but just be sure that they complement and don't fight each other. louisejonesinteriors.com via Pinterest Collecting old boxes covered with different chintz patterns or making them as a fun DIY project will provide you with some accessories for your English cottage interior. deliasphotos.com connie-livingbeautifully.blogspot.com A pretty mix of floral patterns. I love the chintz covered sofa with bullion fringe trim but would lose the ruffles on the pillows. frenchcountrycottage.net Here in this English cottage space several patterns are at work. The chintz is brought into the mix with the addition of floral pillows. If you decide to mix several patterns remember the rule of thumb to start out with the one primary pattern that you want to see the most of, then chose the secondary patterns that bring out colors from the first choice all while mixing large and small prints for maximum visual interest. houseandgarden.co.uk Wallpaper is a good idea for an English cottage bedroom. Here the same pattern is present on the bed skirt, headboard, curtains and chair upholstery. Designer Betsy Speert Small rooms look fantastic in a wall-to-wall chintz style paper. A gallery wall is also a good addition. Be sure and mix in a few florals! via Pinterest scenetherapy.com Oscar and Annette de la Renta’s chintz covered sitting room of their English country house in Kent. via Pinterest A cozy space with a mix of floral chintz textiles. cotton-garden.com architectureartdesigns.com If you want your bathroom to reflect an English cottage look try using chintz fabric for your window treatment. Geranium' by Colefax & Fowler on the windows of this cute English cottage style bathroom. houseandgarden.co.uk Or maybe a colorful chintz table skirt will help give your bath English flavor. The botanical prints are the perfect accessory for an English cottage. kitchensihaveloved.blogspot.com A kitchen is a great place to add English cottage style to your interiors. Windows treatments are a good place to include some floral chintz. thecottagemarket.com thisivyhouse.tumblr.com Or paper your cottage kitchen walls in a chintz pattern that makes the room feel neither too polished or too rustic. warmheartcozyhome.typepad.com romantichome.blogspot.com If you want to incorporate floral chintz into your English cottage space but not necessarily with fabric or wallpaper, start a collection of Royal Albert Chintz china to display. bellasecretgarden.tumblr.com indulgy.com If you are a Minimalist this look is definitely not for you. The English cottage interior's charm lies in it's eccentricity and clutter. It's a style to have fun with and enjoy immensely. And chintz is at the core of the look. Here she is, my 8 x 24' tiny house. The interior measures 8 x 18'. My little shabby chic tiny retreat. When I sit in my home it is like being wrapped in a hug. So cozy, so sweet. So perfect. I dressed her in pink and white for the holidays and the theme " I'm dreaming of a pink Christmas" seems fitting. Looks like it is going to be a white Christmas I am a boot aholic Looking in the front door My nook on the left, WC - water closet on the right My guest loft, fits 2 twin beds, a queen bed or a single bed with extra space for storage The view from my master loft My faux fireplace sits in front of my built in wall heater Fireplace mantle made from an old chippy door Lots of mirrors in the tiny house to reflect light Bunting made by Michelle of Back Through Time, on Etsy My guest loft Peeking through a chandelier is fresh garland from my yard Chandelier adds charm to my reading nook View through the mirror I have a collection of angels through out my tiny house Looking out toward the kitchen from the nook area Looking toward the kitchen and master loft from the nook area Faux vintage ornaments mixed with real vintage crystals My pretty little tree I choose ornaments to reflect light The view from my reading nook Private and cozy spot for a nap My comfy chase My $2.00 vintage medicine cabinet re purposed as a spice cabinet View of the kitchen Pink rag rug from Target - Fresh holiday garland Ready for the Christmas party Mercury glass and silver bulbs reflect light to make a tiny space sparkle Hand painted sign by Rose Cottage Chic I like to mix vintage, whimsy and flea market finds W I S H - Christmas Tree topper Getting ready for my "I'm dreaming of a pink Christmas" party Before I purchased my tiny house I had an idea of how I wanted to decorate it. I was hugely inspired by a stylist named Sandra Foster who has the most amazing tiny house in the world, at least to me. I prefer it over any tiny home that I have ever laid eyes on. It is by far my favorite tiny house and blog ever. Her talent and style has inspired women all over the world. Her tiny studio has been in tons of magazines books and on television shows. I hung Christmas lights in my master loft and also used white fabric draped from the ceiling as a sort of ' knock-off', style of Sandy's adorable cottage in the Catskills. I want to take the time here to recognize her and hope that she sees my little knock off loft look, as a form of flattery and know that I acknowledge her as the queen of shabby cottage décor. Thanks for inspiring me, to try a similar look for my little shabby chic girl cave and retreat. A very special THANKS to two special and talented lady's who's crafts and art work helped to make my little tiny house more festive this holiday season. Jill from Rose Cottage Chic painted the adorable pink sign with roses that says - I'm dreaming of a pink Christmas that I hung in my window above my table. She mixed her own milk paint recipe for my sign. She has an amazing website and also does custom orders. I also want to thank Michelle, who made the little bunting (the hand made W-I-S-H letters) that are vintage style, which I hung against the mirror above my fireplace. She also made my sweet W-I-S-H vintage tree topper. It is a pleasure to do business with people that are so pleasant, who provide incredible personalized customer service. I also loved the thoughtful gift wrap (below picture) that my order arrived in. Michelle has an Etsy shop called Back through time with gifts for all seasons and for absolutely no reason. Both women have wonderful hand made crafts. Gift wrapped order from, Back through time Bunting made by Back through time, available on Etsy My Christmas tree topper I also wanted to include some very interesting information about the color pink which I found on Debbie's site. By the way, Debbie bought a 320 square foot home from Scott of Slabtown Customs, who is the same builder that built my tiny house. Look around her blog once you are there to see more of her sweet little family home. May you be blessed this holiday season. Merry Christmas. Tonita This post is shared with - Marlyn's Treats
