I have been waiting so long to finally get to “tour” you through This Old Victorian. However, doing said tour in blog post form is a bit more challenging than I thought. Hence it’s taken me more than a week to get this all together! Remember Instagram was barely a…
Hello everyone, I am a little late posting, but I have been enjoying some bright sunny days, the outdoors has been calling me.Also, a friend and I went out for lunch and did a little thrift shopping. I got a few treasures that I will share with you later. Now on with my post! I bought this wicker breakfast tray at a thrift shop recently, just in case some lazy Sunday morning my husband wants to serve me breakfast in bed! I hope he reads this post so he will get the hint. But for you, I have served a light breakfast in our little guest room. This green and white toile wallpaper has been on for several years and I still love it. Do you see the hand crochet bedspread on the end of the bed, that is one of my treasures from yesterday. I should have shown a closeup but don't worry you will see it again as it gets moved around the house. Don't you love this sweet little spoon with the matching teacup? when you are done of your breakfast you can enjoy looking through some of my magazines. I found this cute little egg cup at the thrift store as well. these two shots of the room were taken last year. Well, even through your breakfast was pretty skimpy, I hope you enjoyed breakfast in bed,- I know I would!!! Today I am joining Between Naps on the Porch for Tablescape Thursday and My Romantic Home for Show and Tell Friday. Thank you for visiting, Carolyn

A home to make you smile, what better design mantra could there be for turning a house into a home - the guiding principle behind this weeks home story from Sarah Laming.I've only recently discovered Sarah's home (thank you Instagram) and when I came across this image of her yellow kitchen (above) my jaw dropped, I uttered the word "wow" and then I smiled. A jaw drop, a "wow" and a smile are always a guarantee for me that I want to see more.Sarah not only has a beautiful house with a interestin

An orchard once far afield (as any sensible grove should be) has encroached upon the back hall, dear ones... Enchanted fruits now litter the floor and branches have sprouted from our bookcases, their leafy tendrils mingling with tassels and tapestries alike. Furthermore, a bird has nested amid the draperies and our front parlor is overrun with beasts. Ivy encases our curios cabinet and the ceiling is awash in stars... Lady Luna herself looks in on us from time to time, illuminating our abode in her pale glow... {A Grand Gothic Revival Sun Room} {Antique Turkish Textile} {Wrought Iron Garden Furniture} Curious happenings have occurred out of doors as well. Teapots pour tulips, topiary table lamps lounge among the shrubs. A chaise that once slept at the foot of our bed has slithered outside (followed soon after by a set of chairs.) The trio spend their days basking upon the balcony, occasionally clad in velvet but most often in the buff... (oh, my) The seasons brings to life a brass bed frame, a briar of roses in the summer, a coverlet of crocus in early spring. Petunia clad pillows scatter across a carpet, oriental in origin now overrun with moss... {A fairy tale setting styled by Rebecca Purcell} {A Fragment of Antique Floral Wallpaper} As an explanation of these oddities we can only state that “Baroque Organic” is a concept that we often incorporate in our designs as well as our personal décor. Visions of grand roomscapes reclaimed by nature are an endless source of inspiration, as are gardens littered with finery and furnishings. Gathered here are a few luscious images that blur the line between indoors and out. Enjoy! ~Splendor {High Tea in the Garden}

I am a huge fan of vintage architecture. The saying "they just don't make them like that anymore" totally rings true when thinking about the warmth, quality, character, mystery, history and beauty of original, custom homes from gone-by eras. To round out the rest of the summer, I'll be taking my blog readers on pictorial tours of the exteriors of vintage & historic homes from some of my favorite places. If you are a lover of vintage architecture too then......stay tuned! If not, then I hope to meet you back here in blogland in the Fall. Until then, big hugs.

Guys you are absolutely amazing! It's been barely a week since I started this fanfic, and the support and comments I received made all of my days!! Keep being awesome, I love you. Also, get ready for a wholesome chapter <3 I was actually supposed to post it tomorrow but I never listen to my own plans- . When you come back home with a crooked nose, a bruise on your chin and a scratched forehead,...

I’m going to keep this quick as you probably have seen the rather exhustive Stitching Stories posts that I have already done on these items. For my records, however, here is the complete list of my Vintage Sewing Pattern Pledge items that I made in 2015. If you recall from my first post about the Vintage Sewing Pattern Pledge, this was my goal: “I, Bonita Vear of Lavender & Twill, pledge to sew at least five vintage or vintage reproduction patterns in 2015 ~ these MUST be patterns that I haven’t used before from my stash!” And here are the items: ♡ Stitching Stories: Going Dotty for Spotty Cotton ♡ Stitching Stories: A 'Round the House Wrap Dress ♡ Stitching Stories: Adventures in Baby Cord ♡ Stitching Stories: Burning the Roses Red ♡ Stitching Stories: The 1940’s Peasant Christmas Blouse ༺ ♡ ༻ There you have it; my 2015 Vintage Sewing Pattern Pledge completed. If you have noticed a trend with these ~ haha! So have I! It is quite clear that I simply adore Simplicity patterns. It’s even more obvious when you look in my pattern stash. I kind of want to sew/collect all of them from the late 1930s to the end of the 1950s {though I have liked a 1960s Simplicity here and there too!}. (⁎♥ ヮ♥⁎)∠❤ There is something about the style of Simplicity patterns that instantly wins me over ~ I feel like their designs are very “me” and I don’t think that I’ve met a Simplicity from those eras that I haven’t fallen for on the spot! Another trend I also noticed ~ barring the Wrap House Dress {which was Simplicity 2275} ~ is that it seems like every time I try to do a pattern from another company, like Advance or Butterick, the pattern goes horribly, terribly, wrong and I can’t resurect it. Now, I don’t know if this is just down to bad pattern choice, or whether the patterns from Simplicity suit my body shape better, or maybe the Simplicity patterns make more sense to me construction-wise. I’m not too sure, but I do know that I love my Simplicity patterns and will continue to make them this coming year! And hopefully I don’t run into too many snags if I do decide to make up a pattern from another pattern company!
