Underneath each of artist Ulla Stina Wikander‘s needlepoint objects is a real, once-functioning appliance, accessory, or tool. Wikander (previously) tends to select objects with traditional associations to domestic life, like sewing machines, ironing boards, and hair dryers. This listing is for a 9mm Pear Handle Hartman Primitive Rug Hook. It measures about 5" in length. The brass shank is about 2" long. The pear shaped handle is yew wood with beautiful grain lines and smooth finish. Each hook is unique. They even become more beautiful as you use them :) A Hartman hook is a great investment for primitive rug hooking. The thick brass shank is a great help in making a hole large enough for your 8.5 cuts or wider. If you work with torn wool strips, the 9mm is a great tool to have. It is so easy to pull your loops through your backing fabric which makes it easier on your wrist and hand. This 9mm pear shaped hook can be held like a pencil (see 3rd photo) or if you have larger hands you can also palm the handle . Twisting is simply the process of combining together multiple fibres, threads or yarns in a wrapping around (twisting) motion. Twisting fibres will create a thread (or singles), twisting threads will create a yarn, twisting yarns will create a cord or cable - and so on.I'm a huge believer in knowledge is power. If you don't know how a fabric is constructed, how will you be able to design a product that is suitable for your customer? Do you know what a "racked" garment is?
