How bad do you want it? Does your desire for health and fitness mean so much to you that you are willing to give it all you've got? Wow! What a fantastic month it’s been so far! The past two weeks have really given new meaning to the phrase “Busy and Fit Mom” in my life! There have been trips, new business opportunities, old business opportunities, kids’ events galore, prepping for Spring Break and a super intense weight training program added to my routine! I decided to take a little time off from the blog to travel to Cullowhee, NC where my oldest daughter attends college at Western Carolina University. We have attended multiple shows, concerts, recitals, plays, musicals, talent competitions, cheerleading exhibitions, and other events that gave our little performers the opportunity to shine, but the weekend before this last one was the very first college level musical that Kylee had the privilege of being cast in. You can only imagine my excitement as we counted down the days to seeing her on stage. Proud mama after Les Miserables The show was the timeless classic Les Miserables and was directed by none other than Terrance Mann, the original Javier. Surely one would think that having such a talented actor give instruction would alone make the show wonderful. But since I am mama to one who was putting in sweat and tears, I have heard about the countless hours spent rehearsing for this show. The hard work and dedication these “kids” put into this performance made it just as enjoyable as if I had paid hundreds of dollars to see it on Broadway! Not only did I thoroughly enjoy listening to the beautiful voices belt out some of my favorite Broadway songs, but I was inspired by these young people. Almost every one of them on stage came from the school’s Musical Theater program. These are young adults who aspire to not just perform as a weekend hobby or a cross-off on a bucket list, but these are people who are determined to make performing their life’s work. For whatever reason they have been blessed with the ability to sing, dance act and entertain our socks off, I saw a passion on each of their faces and a love for what they were doing! The stage is a tough world and very competitive when you leave the comfort of school. What I saw that weekend was not only a very talented group of actors, but a very DRIVEN group of performers. The evidence was there that supported the fact that they were all willing to do whatever it takes to make this the best show you have ever seen. You could tell they wanted it like they have never wanted anything else! How inspiring to see that kind of passion and drive in such a young group of people today! It really made me think that we all could take a lesson from them and apply it to our own aspirations. So I am going to apply this very concept to our fitness and health level today. Where are you at? Where do you want to be? Is the idea of losing a few pounds just something that you want to do because you think that is what other people expect you should do to look the way THEY think you should? Or have you begun to find that deep down motivation inside you to do whatever it takes to change your life around, live healthy, be fit and OUT-PERFORM YOURSELF? I know that for me, after I came back from watching this show (two nights in a row), I began my weight-training program that was already on my calendar to start, but instead of just going through the motions, I found it in me to DIG DEEP, lift more and work harder. I have decided that this is something that I want just as much as I want to breathe! The motivation before the show was growing, and something inside me clicked when I saw the level of dedication they put into their efforts and the RESULTS that came from those months of hard work! They didn’t hit the high belting notes with perfect pitch the first night of rehearsal, I am sure. But wow! The final product that came from the training was phenomenal! If they can apply that to a musical performance, surely we can apply that kind of hard work and dedication to our commitment to making a healthier, stronger happier life. Nothing worth having is ever easy. How bad do YOU want it? This video is about 13 minutes long, but I would recommend taking the time to watch it. I pull it out from time to time when I need to remind myself what it take to be successful at WHATEVER I am trying to accomplish. Be blessed and make it a great day! Heidi Turner Find me onInstagram
