I've been wanting to write a guide to Hudson, New York, for ages because it's one of my favorite small towns. It's often referred to as "Upstate's Downtown" because it manages to maintain its charming but still gritty small town atmosphere, while also boasting a number of fantastic restaurants, stylish (and pricey!) shops and design hotels.

About Take a look at this fantastic double sided early 19th or late 18th century wooden trade sign with original wrought Iron bracket. Came out of a Hudson Valley, N.Y. estate - "Clothing cleaned and Repaired" untouched and original, this sign could easily be from the early 19th century, you will not find another one. This sign hung in my kitchen in my 1769 farmhouse for many years. A couple of the photo's are of how it hung in my home. As you see you can display it with or without the iron bracket. Stunning piece of history.
Famous 20th Century designer, Henry Dreyfuss, brought his art deco streamlined concept and ideas to the New York Central Railroad. The result was the famous Dreyfuss Hudson locomotives that honor his name. They pulled the famous passenger trains called “The 20th Century Limited” on record-setting trips between Chicago and New York City. Here we see one of those crack passenger trains crossing a mighty lift bridge on its way to its destination. Bridge, approach track, water, and atmosphere were modeled and set up just for this photograph.

Bannerman’s Castle might look like a medieval European storybook setting, but these American ruins have seen their fair share of disaster. The only real occupants of the castle were weapons of war and temperamental explosives, housed in this elaborate military surplus warehouse built in 1901. Just 50 miles North from New York City, located on…

Dark sense of humor and unexpected endings? Talk about a perfect combo for comics. It’s been over a decade since Ryan Hudson posted his first one, and it shows, judging by how entertaining his illustrations are today. Hudson says his comics are "about making fun of the human condition" with the ultimate goal of making humor.

George Inness [1825-1894] came of age during the formation of the Hudson River School, whose artists viewed nature as a manifestation of the divine and strove to represent it as faithfully as possible. However, Inness distinguished himself from this group in the profound degree to which philosophical and spiritual ideas inspired his work. Ultimately, he became the leading American artist-philosopher of his generation... . /© The Metropolitan Museum of Art - Adrienne Baxter Bell, Department of Art History, Marymount Manhattan College.
