Crinkled aluminum foil, silver leafing, phthalo blue ink dye, blue leather dye all combine nicely on this carved filigree gourd. This regal-looking gourd has a 1/4" border of silver leaf which wraps around the curvy neck and criss-crosses at the lower front. The silver leafing borders the delicately carved filigree. Along side the silver leaf on one side is a completely unique embellishment made from aluminum foil crinkled and inserted into a recessed section of the gourd. The aluminum foil was then highlighted in random areas using blue alcohol ink dye. The body of the gourd was first colored with blue leather dye as the base coat. Then it was painted with a deep phthalo blue. Finally blue alcohol ink dye was painted on in swirls and jiggles for a fun and unique look. The filigree was carefully carved and each hole was individually sanded. The area was coated with wood hardener to strengthen the wood while preserving the delicate look. This tall gourd stands 10 1/2" high and 6 3/4" wide. The addition of two cute little feet add stability to the gourd so she is less likely to tip over. Inside, the gourd was cleaned, sealed and painted black. The entire gourd was finished off with 3 coats of varnish to help protect her.
