People who aren’t members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints often associate our religion with a long list of rules we follow. While the Church has many guidelines in place for our protection and overall happiness, it’s important to understand what is and isn’t actual doctrine.
This Easter Season, I would like to share my Easter Thoughts and some of the reasons why I choose to follow Jesus Christ.
With the new "Meet the Mormons" Movie that is out, and all of the fun "and I'm a Mormon" videos that are out, our Seminary decided to make a book to give to our Stake President. Here is how we did it: Here is the cover of ours: We printed everything out on white card-stock. If you want to use the one below, just click on the picture to make it large. Then right click and save it into your pictures or copy and paste it into your print program. I designed a more generic cover if you would like to use it: Then on the first page we put this song. It is our Stake President's favorite song: Here is another version done in the chalk board style: Then we made copies of the page below for each student. We had previously taken pictures of each student so that they were already to go. We then had them each fill out their own. Here is a sample one that I did of my daughter: After they had completed an "I'm a Mormon" sheet we sent them out with a Book of Mormon and this handout to help them know how to prepare for sharing it with a friend. Just click on it if you want to get a copy. The students had a lot of fun making the book and our Stake President loved it! I hope yours turns out great. To see all of my Seminary ideas click here.
Are we saved by grace or works? Understanding the difference between salvation and exaltation will help us understand the relationship between grace & works
I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. At my church, we teach the youth (ages 12-18) from a curriculum called Come, Follow Me. Each month, we teach lessons centered around a particular topic. The topic for March is the Atonement of Jesus Christ. The first lesson outline this month is "What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ?" For this lesson, I created the worksheet/handout you see below. Each fill-in-the-blank answer comes from the section "Atonement of Jesus Christ" in True to the Faith. We read this as a class and filled in the answers as we came across them. I like the visual and the simple format. If you would like this for your class, click the link below to download. I was baptized 10 years ago. During these 10 years, my journey has not been easy. But being baptized has made it easier. The gospel, the Church, and my membership in the Church have truly enriched my life.
At church (I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) I'm currently serving in the primary, which is for children ages 18 months through 11 years old. Each year we are given a theme by the general leadership in Salt Lake City, Utah to teach to the kids. Each yearly theme is supplemented with monthly themes and scriptures. This year our theme is "I Am a Child of God" and I'm really excited about it. We're going to use the armor of God analogy found in Ephesians to teach our monthly themes. Partly because I LOVE the analogy and partly because it's a good way to get the kids (even the little ones) involved and hopefully understanding a little more. This is the outline I made. I used one I found on www.sugardoodle.net and just adjusted it to better fit this year. Tara did an amazing job with the same annual theme a few years ago, I've loved it from the first time I came across it and now I finally get to use it! In January we'll talk about our missions here on earth and how we need to be outfitted to better complete them. Then we'll get out our picture/drawing of primary kid(s) (one of two I haven't decided yet) in large paper doll form. I was thinking I'd use one of those large tri-fold displays and keep it in the front of our primary room each Sunday. As we introduce each monthly theme from then on, we'll add an article of clothing (or armor) to our primary kid(s) to help cement the ideas in the kids heads. I also really want to talk about how important it is that they each pray about what they're learning so they gain strong testimonies of their own. I'm excited and can hardly wait to get started!! If you'd like a copy, send me an email (right hand side, near the top)! * 12/18/2012 Update: I posted different ideas on how to go about making your dress up Armor of God boy or girl here. Good luck!! * Update 12/27/2012: I finally chose my Armor of God Guy and added my own pieces, you can read about it here.
